Is the action for the model 70 used for the 300Wby the same length as for the 375H&H?

I am pretty sure the Wby is on a true magnum action, but wanted to check before dropping any cash.

I found a reasonably priced 300Wby SS M70 and even with a rebarrel, it would be a cheaper route to a SS 375.

Yes.

It is even the same action length used for "standard length" magnums such as .300 Win Mag and 7mm Rem Mag. For the shorter cases the magazine is blocked off in the rear, the boltstop and ejector is modified, though.

Like Mike said the only difference between the 7mmmag action and the 375Action is the shorter case has a spacer in the box and longer blot stops and ejectors. I've converted a number of 7mag to 7STW. First ones by removing the box and grinding down the stop and ejector. The later ones I bought a new box, stop and ejector for the 375 action. Then sold the old ones.

I have not looked at the M70 in 300Wby but since the case has an OAL of 3.56" it might be ready to go without any changes.

As usual just my $.02

Duck,
The action length for the 7mmMags and 300WM are the same as the 300Wby and 375 H&H, if you measure between the action screws. However, there is one more difference, not yet mentioned. The "magnum" actions, in factory Classic actions, also are relieved a bit at the rear of the loading port. Which is why they take the .330" rear scope mount, instead of the standard rear screw hole spacing common to both long and short action Model 70 Classics.

One more thing to consider, Since you say you are able to get the donor quite reasonably, the Classic SS Model 70 in a 300Wby is quite rare, and I wouldn't be surprised if you could make a bit on cash on this deal if you put it on

Yes, the actions are the same for the 300 wby and 375 H&H. I'm not sure that the follower is the same, but everything else is.
