I have a quantity of Mauser 98's and toying with the idea of extending the tang on one back along the comb of the stock as in many of the double rifles. Very end would include a fastener/screw for additional strength and be shaped as a heart or some figurine. The rear of the action serves as primary purpose as guide for the bolt and place for a trigger to be housed and never really felt it was critical to the overall integrity of the action?? May well do the same approach on the bottom metal for there is a fair amount of metal on the original mauser bottom metal as well as the Argentines it would appear.(parent metal for welding) Shape of these extensions would follow the lnes of the comb as well as that of the grip. Have friends who are very skilled at their craft of welding-as in artistic items- and have seen a few European Mausers(believe they were custom Italian sourced Mauser sporters??) with this treatment. Since only expense I would have is time inletting the stock to suit and finish polishing, might be a unique yet functional rifle as well. Just like the looks of the set up and curious if others out there have actually done this or have knowledge of the approach?? Any and all input would be appreciated.

Thanks for the source on extended tangs, etc. I plan on extending even more so, up and over the comb area as seen w/ double rifles. Thanks again.
