I know if it isn't a Mauser or pre64 Mod 70 it ain't in favor. I bought a Pierce CM receiver and did a custom anyway. I will try to run through what was involved in building it. Dan Lilja made me a CM 1.350 barrel. James Anderson made an octagon after I chambered it in 6.5X47 Lapua. John Pierce did not make a CM bolt handle other than a tactical handle. I bought one of the tactical handles as John uses a different type primary extraction cam on his receivers and bolt handles. The bolt handle was welded on the bolt by Dan Armstrong. Dan cut the threaded part of the handle off and welded one of his handles to the tactical base. Jerome Glimm engraved the bolt knob. I built the scope bases, the under receiver recoil lug, and front octagon sight. I built the trigger guard and rear iron sight , but I missed on the bolt distance centerline on the trigger guard and James didn't like my rear iron sight. He made replacements. He did a hell of a job. It has a PT&G 3 pos safety and a Shilen trigger. I need to post a picture of the blank. It was a second from Roger Vardy. James Anderson did a wonderful job with it. I rushed James so much he didn't get the scope on straight. You will be hard press to find a finer builder than James. Butch

I forgot to say that Ken Hurst did the wonderful job of engraving. I shoot this caliber and have some good loads for it. I hope to get to the range with it soon. Butch

Saaaawwwweeeeeet! Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Very nice Butch. I own a Pierce action but it is enslaved in a McMillan A5 with big ol' muzzle break on the bbl. I think the highest compliment I can pay James Anderson is to say that his work reminds me a great deal of Don Klein's from back in the 80's - which is to say that it is just about a perfect execution of the classic American custom sporting rifle. Others helped to set that mark of course, but Klein is the one that comes to mind when I see Anderson's work.

What made that blank a second, I see no fleas on it? The more I look the more I like...and I still like the color of the background in the photos. _____________________ Steve Traxson

The blank kinda looked ugly and if I can find the photo of it I will post it tomorrow. I did have a couple guys say they wouldn't even use it for firewood when they saw the blank. I traded a piece of bottom metal for it. Butch

Butch, What animals are on the agenda? I've been shooting the 6.5x47 since last December but it's in a 17.5 lb sniper rifle built by Chris Matthews of Longshot Rifles on a Surgeon 591 SA, Krieger 26" MTU contour barrel and AICS stock. Last month I placed 5th in the Utah State Sniper Shoot. The load I settled on used the 130 gr Berger VLD Hunting with 40.8 gr of H4350 and CCI 450 primers. You are gonna LOVE this caliber! I love it soo much I had Chris build me a light weight hunter on a Pierce action, Broughton barrel and Mcm Rem 700 Sporter edge filled stock. It got sent via UPS, TODAY! I should get it Wednesday. It won't be the beautiful wood/blue BABE you've got. Should be super accurate! Will post pics Wednesday or after, in a new thread. Alan

Alan, I have been hunting with a 6.5X47Lapua the past 2 years. It is on a model 7 and weighs 7lb. 4oz. with scope. It is a very accurate cartridge and I really like it. I built one of my Grandsons a 6X47Lapua year before last, but they moved to Virginia inorder for my oldest son to go to law school. They have no place to hunt there. Butch
