Thanks to a couple of fellow AR members this one has found a home. Max Wolf 19"bbl. 6 3/4 lbs. Charles Danner reblued it and Donald Mink did the case coloring on the rings and shroud. Dad fit a set of rings to the mounts and I stole the zeilkein off my 375.

Keep in mind, I wear bifocals, prefer a peep, and am a lousy shot. I put a box of Privi through it just to play with it. I thught it would kick like a demon but it was shockingly pleasant to shoot offhand. The best group I got was about 1 1/2" at 50yds. It was hard for me to see the front sight but we just got the scope on it and haven't tried it yet. Too Cold.

Dale - Absolutely beautiful rifle. I have a similar rifle (8X57) with the same mount arangement. The original scope and rings were lost in a move by the previous owner and I need to have a set of rings fitted. What rings did your dad use as a starting point for fitting? Gentlemen, I do appreciate all the kind remarks. It boost your courage up to post pictures as long as no one calls your gun dog ugly. There is a gentleman in Germany that"s a scope dealer and a while back he ran several batches of rings & mounts on Ebay. I won one auction of about a double handful of rings, perhaps 14 or 16. Not a single ring fit any gun we had but I felt I was lucky as there was 3 sets that could be fit to our guns with the wolf being one.

Very Nice rifle. Just beautiful. But a question about that front base. It looks as if it is slotted into the reciever. At least material have been remooved to make place for the claws, but I really think the wole base is slotted into a dovetail in the reciever, as I have seen that kind of mounting before. I would not recomend that to a M98, so please tell me the picks are lying, and that the base is soldered on, or that I am way off and that making a dovetail like that in the front ring is safe as sun after rain. Jeez I'm sorry I looked at this.. I had the twin to this Max Wolf, but the stock was too far gone for my taste and the over all condition did not quite rate the expense (on my budget) to go restoration.. Congrats.. She's a keeper MopaneMike

Hi Bent, You're correct, it's dovetailed for the front base and it's a small ring at that. I have always heard that it isn't safe and shouldn't be done, but I have never, ever heard of a rifle having problems or blowing up because putting the front base in that way. Are you familar with an Abiene mill? We need some info regarding one. Regards, Dale

Sorry for late reply. And sorry for not being able to help you with your mill. Sounds French? My father always thought me, "That the French were supposed to make food, the Germans mashines and the English were supposed to just make Hell. Now, the french are making mashines, the english are making food and the germans are making Hell. Now wonder the world is off!!" Anyway, I have also never heard bad storys of scopemounts like this, but plenty opinions that it should not be done. I would really like to hear input from others on this issue, maybe we should make a new thread? Bent Fossdal Reiso 5685 Uggdal Norway
