I have a MAS Model 45 22LR rifle with a less than perfect bore which I am considering rebarreling. Because the firing pin is on the centerline of the bolt, it is obvious that the centerlines of the bolt and the barrel bore are offset. Are the receiver bores for the bolt and barrel tenon offset or is the barrel tenon offset from the barrel bore? The section view in Ludwig Olson's book "Mauser Bolt Rifles" for the KKW Mauser (whick I believe is the same as the MAS) seems to indicate the later. This seems illogical to me. Any information concerning this from anyone familiar with these rifles will be greatly appreciated.

i don't have any advice on the rebarrel, just an interesting story -- I bought one at a gunshow for $75bucks -- in 22, just like yours --- walked less than 2 rows away, and sold it for... well, more than 75 bucks... wish i kept it, i like 22 bolt guns opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Call Duane Wiebe. I know he has re-stocked a few but he may have done some metal work too.

Well, if it is true that the MAS 45 is essentially the same thing as the Mauser KKW, here are some pics of the Mauser barrel: I linked those to ebay, so you will want to save them to your hard drive in case they disappear. Here was the original page: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400973797210 Don't look now but the barrel sold for $40. If you want to bring back accuracy, have you considered just having the barrel relined? If you bore out from the breech end and stop 3/16" from the muzzle the reline is pretty much invisible. It would still affect the value of the gun at least you'd still have the original barrel. for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

Mark, Thanks for the information. You have confirmed my fears. Perhaps relining makes more sense.
