Hi All,
Well I am starting my final custom rifle. It will be a little 7mm Mauser in a full stock with some bells and whistles. My question here is, can anyone dirrect me to some sites that may show other custom Mannlichers (so I can get some ideas)or does anyone have one that they would like to share a picture of, or it's building history? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and God bless.

I'm not a big Remington fan but this is a very fine looking gun...maybe it'll give you some ideas.

Have ForrestB post hte pictures of his little Mauser Mannlicher rifle. I ahve them at home if we get his permission to post one.

find a copy of Do-it-Yourself Gunsmithing by Jim Carmichel.
He has a couple of chapters on how to do such interesting and nice touches as double triggers, shotgun trigger guard, full length stock, lever-opening hindged floor plate. its a GREAT idea source.

Not a Mauser but it has very nice details like the horn muzzle tip and the color case-hardened receiver:

Hey guys thanks for the quick response, and the pictures. Tiggertate is this ForrestB's Mannlicher???? This is very similar to what I had in mind except I would want a cartridge trap, claw mounts, and express sights. Do you know who did the work on this beautiful rifle???? Also can any of you point me in the direction of some sites that might carry express sights and cartridge traps. That rifle is for sale at Champlins and they imply that it was built by Ultra Light Arms. I suppose a call could clear that up.

I'm going to be building a very similar gun, must be the bug is getting around. For a cartridge trap I'm looking at making one that will hold a charged stipper clip. As I don't want scope mounts I will retain the charger hump. My feeling on this trap is that no matter what happens, if have to pick up that gun and go, I have five rounds ready.

What other caliber is there that so embodies the classic Obindorf full stock carbine; It must be 7x57! .

OK so that was a bit pompus, but that's the caliber I have picked out for mine. I'm building it on a Chiliean 1912 made by Steyr.
I was going to build a scout on it (on the cheap) but the workmanship and artistry I've seen on the AR has inspired me to take it up a couple of notches. In need to turn up a bolt handle and finish grinding the crest off; other than that the action is pretty much ready.
I sent it to work with a buddy and had it black oxided (industrial blueing) so that I'll know when all the low spots are level.

Virginia is a big chuck of realistate, what county are you in?

We have a small farm just east of Chatham, which is one hour south of Lynchburg. This new Mannlicher will be my last project gun. The last one I built (and am still working on) is a .416RM and it was started in 1989!!!! So I am not in a rush on this 7mm However this is going to be the one I want my Grandson to have and I do want it tricked up a bit. I have numerous working rifles and some that were built with the notion that they are tools and not toys BUT, I want both in this rifle So, I am trying to put together the best of what is out there and add my thoughts and likes to those. I intend to build this puppy over the next two years or so, and any help you can offer, or ideas you might have would be appreciated. TC&GB

Thanks I missed that pair completely!!! What a joy to be able to view craftsmanship at it's finest. That site has added several ideas, and one item made "THE LIST" so I want to thank you for the direction. BTW, the little Remington Model 7 Vapodog posted is a jewel, too. They look wondeful in person. It's a shame you can only get it through the custom shop.

Cordell: You gotta love those 7x57mms. My brother owns a CZ 550 Full Stock in 7x57mm and he loves it, but I think you are looking for something more. Just for grins, go to www.serengetistockworks.com and when the site comes up, put the cursor on "pricing." When the tab lowers, scroll down to "products and services." When that page comes up, scroll down to "mannlicher style stock" and click on that. That little puppy is drop dead beautiful, at least to me it is. The best of luck with your project. Tom Purdom

ALF what nice group of rifles, makes an old man want to build more than just 1 more!!! Where did you get your express sights?? ramrod340, take a look at the above rifle of ForrestB's and you can see where I might have thought it was military. Thanks for clearing that up, he did an absolutely great job on that rifle (hey and the deer isn't bad either!!). Rusty Marlin where exactly are you located in Virginia?? And I am also on the fence as far as my bolt handle is concerned. I love the look of the spoon, but the standard bolt handle is just more comfortable to operate?? I'm in Montross on the Northern Neck. Between the Potomac and the Rappahannock rivers. Its a nice spot, a bit crowded after living in NH, but the folks here have welcomed us warmly; the woodchuck killing is pretty good; and the deer herd is healthy.
Unfortunatly we're a bit far apart for swilling beer and swapping ideas; I figure you're a good 3hr drive from home.

cordell, the sweetest looking full stocked rifle I have ever seen is the one shown above that belongs to Forest B and made by Duane Weibe. It is also one of the finest custom guns I have ever seen. You would do well to follow those lines as best you can.

ForrestB is a luck man and that is simply art!

The original Mannlichers have nothing on that gun at all!

If you look closely at the classic Mannlicher stocks, you will see a slight concave curve from the front of the floorplate to the nose cap. Without this curve, the stock will look a little clunky. With it, svelte and sexy are the terms that come to mind. I did a search on "mannlicher" and came up with a bunch of different pictures. I am in the process of sanding and shaping one for my VZ-24 .257 Roberts.
