The best safety for a 1903 Springfield?

I have never cared for either the Buehler style (too easy to knock off safe) or the tinny little Timney trigger/safety, especially if the rifle is going to be a .400 Whelen and might see dangerous game.
Googling around, I see Ed Lapour offers a very nice three-position wing safety, and that some have fitted Model 70 shrouds and safeties. Are these latter two the most elegant/practical solutions?

iirc, a POST64 winchester 3pos can be fitted to an 1903 -- i have one, in storage, that did screw on and looked like it would work with standard install of 3 pos safety -- just never finished the project before we moved

I've fitted a couple of Ed LaPour's safeties; you will not find any better.

Wisner is another good option.

My custom -03 35 Whelen has a Wisner M-70 type safety and has been entirely excellent for many years.

I agree the Lapour is the "cadillac". I have done a number of the two position ones, modified the original bolt sleeves.

Jim, were your customers happy with the Wisner two-position safety? The Lapour is really lovely.

Hi Bill.

I have used a couple of the Wisner 2-position safeties, and now prefer them to the 3-position style. I will be using a third for a .338-06 project I have in the works.

I believe the Lapour and Wisner 3 position safeties are essentially identical.

Jim sold the mfg rights to Ed a while ago, they are similar for obvious reason.

Looking more closely at the Wisner two-position, it almost seems it might be a better choice on a DGR. Wonder how much time a smith has to put in installing the Wisner vs. the LaPour.

I can do it on your barreled action for $165 with return shipping. Wisner makes the lever conversion kit that I use.
