I am planning on building custom rifles on a FN, Argentine 98, and Mexican. What triggers do you use for these actions? I am planning on using a three position saftey. At least on the Argentine I use the Timney sportsman.......and have used quite a few and never had any trouble. They are easy to install and adjust. SP M98 FN I think that trigger will also work in the Mexican and the FN but it's been quite a while since I've put one in a Mex! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I use the Timney with the side safety. ________ Ray

For their price and quality, Timneys are pretty hard to beat. If you don't go the 3 position safety route you can use the Bhueler or FN style if you don't like the side safety.

I've used Timney and Bold and consider both to be very good. I've heard good things about the Blackburn triggers too but I've never seen or used one. Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

The Winchester type trigger is my favorite.

I've used a Timney Sportsman and a Bold Optima. Of the two, I prefer the Timney. Jason "Chance favors the prepared mind."

I prefer, blackburn or timney featherweights. I'm not a fan of the way the sportsman sits in the guard bow. Don

I have used Timney as well and they are an excellent trigger however on the last rifle I built I used a 98 DWM military trigger I altered over twenty years and 1000 rounds of 7x61 S&H ago. I made a single stage trigger by building up the extension in front of the trigger so that it was lifting past the first hump then reduced the spring length a quarter turn at a time till I had a lovely 3 lb let-off and because the surface hardening has not been altered it will remain in service for thousands of rounds in its new configuration. It feels as good as a Timney and the safety can be reworked to whatever is required, for myself, I used a Parker Hale style extended and lowered flag.

I really like Kepplingers. Rarely hear of anyone using them. THey sit in the "Mauser" position in the bow, and many AMericans don't care for that. Really like the Blackburn. It is heavy and i would not put one on the Mex, but fine on the other actions. Getting one is often a problem, so if you want one, snatch it up as soon as it is available. Have only (extensively) dry fired the Bold. Do not care for it. Timney is OK and if you have a good trigger guy go through it then they can be very good. I like Chevy trucks and have a firends with Dodge and Fords and they love theirs as well. Point being I really don't think you can get a bad trigger, just a different trigger. ![]() Do check out the Kepplinger if you get a chance. Love 'em!

I like the Blackburn. Very well made. You can now get one in steel, or if you need lightweight Ted is also making them in aluminum. Last time I was there Ted had a bunch ready for sale, but don't wait too long as they go quickly and he makes them in runs and once they sell out it might be awhile before another run is made. They look like this: ![]()

Amen! Been using the Timney's for Mauser builds for quite a while with no problems.

I've used Kepplinger SSTs and like them, especially for the earlier 1895s and similar. The trigger lever sits too far forward in the later 1898 bows to suit me but the earlier 1895-type bows are further forward, placing the trigger lever more toward the rear of the bow where I like it. I much prefer the Kepplinger SST over any of the Timneys but the SST Kepplinger sometimes needs a little work for best unset pull. Bought one of those Kepplingers a couple of years ago and I'm still trying to figure out how it works. Got a good pull on it but I have no idea how I got there ![]() Blair "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading".

I just fitted one to a ZG47. Despite not being so 'fashionable' a brand I found it adjusted to my desired 1lb more easily than the Recknagel.
