I have a 338-06 based on a Win Ranger 670 push feed blind mag. I would like to upgrade to a Wood with a bedding block or laminate stock. My question is can I just buy a Williams one piece bottom metal and make this into a magazine rifle??

Its essentially a no frills M70. You will have to change the mag box and spring.

nothing "wrong" with a push feed Model 70....I'm a Rem 700 guy but I'll say this...the push feed M70 has a better extractor(actually copied from the Savage 110 series) and a better safety, a safer trigger...and it doesn't have the bolt handle "glued" on like a 700......makes we wonder why I don't own one...I've owned a handful over the years...

Rob

That's what I did for Pops' 670. Williams bottom metal and I went for a Ramline stock. You'll have to inlet for the trigger saftey.

Unless recoil or money is a problem, have it put in a McMillan edge stock. Then when it's
convenient, have the metal coated with Gunkote
or Cerekote.

You could just get a laminated stock from Boyds for the M70 with a blind magazine for $65.

Boyds JRS Classic

You could even get the thumbhole version,

But thumbhole stocks should be made from curly maple to better accent the chromed receiver and barrel.

Alright, if wood it must be, the Boyds is the
cheapest that will look right. Classic, of
course, otherwise it will look like a California style monstosity! thumbdown

If you have the dough, call Claude Gatewood, he'll fit you a nicer stock, with checkering to boot! thumb

I'd still rcommend the metal coating. Big Grin
