Hi I have heard some rumblings from what I consider a not very accurate source that my small ring mex mauser is not suitable for 22-250 class cartdridges. I have been saving a 1946 action for that or a 22br. I just wanted to see what some other builders feal on the topic. This same man talked a person out of using a fn large ring mex mauser because they blew up. however he did not contact me and put on a turkish instead. o well it was his money. any comments are welcome.

the mex 1910 and 1936 (small ring 98s) are suitable for ANYTHING that will fit in them, at "factory" loads. I have them in the following 257r 708 311 (308x.311barrel) that last 1 week, till i rebarreled 358 win 376 steyr 458 winchester (too short, but hey)
Remember, it's a 98, with 3 locking lugs, not a 91,95,96 that only has two.
If you are not comfortable with it, email me, and we'll talk about selling it. jeffe
I am planning on using it for 1 of my own projects and will not sell it. They are getting hard to find. I just wanted to see what other people thought as I knew that I would be building a rifle of my own out of it. Thanks for the replies

OBS, I had one in .22/250. There were no problems with that caliber. I later rebarrelled it to 7X57, but not because there were problems in .22/250... I love Mexican Mausers!!
I bought a mex. mauser in a .308 Win. I think the ad said "Spainish Gaurdia" It cocks on closing, Does that make it a 95-96? It shot very well, But I read on one of the fourms that it was not safe to shoot, so I removed the barrel and set the action aside to make a 257 Roberts some day. I would LOVE to rebarrel it to a 7-08! but would this be safe? I bought the rifle through FEDERAL ARMS, and the still have them for sale in the 308 Win.

DLH, did you get what JBelk said? No offense but those rifles are considered your basic POS. Don't waste your time or your money on it. You'll be pissin' down the proverbial rathole. I've seen one or two of these things come loose with issue, milsurp ammo. Gets your undivided attention real freakin' quick.
