Gmc/Chevy versus New F-150

My lease on my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 is over in 6 months.

First fullsize truck I owned and am pretty happy.

Going to this time buy a full size truck -any opinions on GMC Denali versus similar new Ford 150.

Truck will be crew cab, short bed, 4x4. Not going to tow anything right now and minimal hauling.

I am seriously envious of an ar member's customized and fixed up f-150.

I am thinking of buying cause I will invest in a lot of accessories - rhino bed, gun storage ect.

Any opinions ?

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

Mine is a F150 supercrew 4x4 it is a fairly fleet model. It has no carpet.

I bought a shell/topper when I got it and we have used it daily. I wouldn't own another pickup without one.

I am close to cracking 120,000 miles and I'd still buy Ford today.

The new Ram's are really nice, but a lot more cash.

I wouldn't own a GM anything because of the buyout.

Nissans and Toyotas get horrible gas mileage and have a very plastic sound to their doors. Not impressed but my Dad and my Brother in Law both own them and love their Toyotas.

Personally I'd buy a Raptor if that is your flavor, if not I'd buy a Ram.

Are there historically a lot of people who switch between Ford and GM?

I own both GM and F stock - noting against either company. Don't hold the bailout against GM as govt/Fed rescued AIG, every major TARP bank and Swiss Central Bank.

I really like the high end GMC and Ford - they have all the power outlets and connectivity to run a small office out of one.

I've had at least a half dozen each Fords and Chevys and was happy with all but a couple of them. Dodges not so much.

I had a F 150 4X4 super crew ecoboost. It was the first year it came out and had some problems over the first two years. Transmission issue the first 10K miles but got them worked out. Then I had 5 of the 6 coils fail before 40K miles.
I drove the truck 90K miles and when it ran it was great. Just think they got a bad bunch of coils from a sub contractor but they replaced them all free, just a hassle.
I would probably buy another one. Plenty power, comfortable and quiet.
Driving a 3/4 ton Ram 4X4 cummins megacab now. Nicer than the Ford but an awfully large vehicle to park in the city.
Gets 3-4 better MPG than the Ford ecoboost and the Ram weighs 2000 lbs more.
I think Chevy's may be the most comfortable and quietest.
The ford super crew and the Ram mega cab have much more rear seat leg room than the Chevy/GM. I have a tendency to carry adults in the back seat and they all comment on the room in the rear of the Ford and the Ram. The Rams rear seats actually recline a bit.

Can you say "limp mode". Not good when you are a distance from a service center. Ford should have had a recall on this one. They knew they had a problem but let the owners address this issue one at a time.

I've owned Several Chevy half tons and still own a 99 Silverado. They always ran well enough, but I always hated the way the door hinges wore.

When my Landcruiser gave up the ghost, I went shopping for a quad cab 4x4 PU. this was the first year that Ford came out with the Eco Boost. I liked that Ford was making an effort to provide fuel economy as well as towing power. I also liked the fact that they did not accept any bail out money.

The F150 has been great. Like a previous poster said, the rear leg room is great. My boys are only teenagers and are already taller than me. They never complain about leg room.

So far, I haven't had any issues. No coil problems. Of course, now that my warranty is up.... Lol.

Yeah, my shop has been in business 35 years. We are doing well screwing the Michigan folks!
You better go back to building your paste board potting soil tables. Nobody would buy the plans for them did they? How about your tile shooting targets?
I think you would be a good candidate for the Shark Tank.

Dodge Diesel half-ton, if you really want a truck.
29mpg on the road.

If you have adults in the back seat, look long and hard at the Toyota Tundra Ltd. Most interior room of any light/medium truck sold in the US.

I did mine for under $200 and that included buying the lisle extraction tool for when they break off in the head. It really wasn't that hard.

I've been a Ford guy when it comes to full-sized trucks, but I have been lurking on the Ram 1500 Ecodiesel forum. Chrysler has had its share of growing pains with the new EcoDiesel but seems slowly to be solving the issues. But a lot of Dodge guys will admit the Chrysler service network is very spotty. Wish Ford had been able to deliver better gas mileage with the new aluminum framed 150.

Been a Ford fan all my life and was pretty happy with all of them except one. Two years ago bought a Tundra and now doubt if I ever go back to Ford again.
If your looking for a full size truck with a short bed check out the Tundra Crew Max. The back seat area is HUGE. Almost 400 hp and I been averaging 17-18 around town and between 20 and 22 on a trip if I don't drive over 70.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.
