Good stories, you guys. You give me a good laugh! It's strange because I really don't know any of you, but we seem like old mates. Brian IHMSA BC Provincial Champion and Perfect 40 Score, Unlimited Category, AAA Class.

Went out this morning with several friends. Had a nice breakfast, and had all the desert to ourselves! Unlike last Friday, where it was jam packed, there was no one there today. Even the gazelles were absent!! We found the car as of an old doe. Must have dies of old age, as we have no predators to bother them. Will add photos later on.

WORD GOT OUT. Rumor had it that Walter and Walter were going to be there.

Yes. It never fails! 2 Arabs 2 Germans 1 Scotsman 1 Frenchman 1 Englishman. What could possibly go right! The Arabs came in their own vehicles, as they live in different parts of town. The Germans came in one vehicle. The Frenchman came in his own. The Scotsman and the Englishman came in one as they live close together. And with what is going on in the UK right now between Boris and Nicola it was a wonder these two did not strangle each other! But, apparently being nice to each other in the desert trumps politics! The two Germans and the Frenchman refused to drive up into the dunes - amazing that we can get the French and the Germans to agree on anything! Strike another point for the uniting desert! So these three hitched a ride with us. After breakfast in the dunes, we decided to go to another area close to the lakes, which is not sandy at all. After that I took off home, leaving the Germans, the Scotsman and the Englishman in their two vehicles. All they had to do is follow a dirt track to the main road. Half way home I get a video of Walter stuck in the sand!!?? How the hell he managed that is an utter mystery! But, one can never put anything past him, with his talents. The Scot got him out.

Saeed: YOU DO NOT DISAPPOINT!! Those pics of Walter are classic. And, in one of Hessa's signature hats! The two Walters together-WOW, the DNA does NOT lie. Well, we have now had our Walter 'fix' for the year, since we weren't going to get one from Tanzania. Query: What was Walter instructing everyone in during his 'lecture'? Query: Why was Walter swimming in the sand (breast stroke, side stroke and back stroke)? Query: What is the small wire 'igloo' looking dome? The vestige of an abandoned tent? Query: If you find animal parts in the desert, can you recover them? Those appear to be some decent horns. Query: What happened to the badminton contest?

I am half deaf, so thankfully was saved from listening to Walter's instructions. Walter went down the slope because he was very brave. I asked them to jump down, and they all chickened out, so Walter showed them how to do it! I think that was the remnants of a tent. I have no idea whether we could pick it up, but, frankly, I would not touch anything like that here. No predators, so it must have died of something. And with what is going on right now, I would not touch them. The badminton was another story. I went to a sports shop to get one, and found rackets, but they had no shuttle cocks. I did not buy the rackets. Sent one of our boys to the supermarket, got a very cheap one, and he broke it loading my Landcruiser. I seem to have no limit to useless talent around me! But, this morning was the first time we had hot coffee - I normally just take cold drinks. Those little hand pumps worked like a charm, despite their operators getting all sorts of nasty remarks! My Landcruiser has a built in compressor, so I have no problem filling up my tires after getting out of the sand dunes. We stopped to do that as usual, and I was busy pumping my tires. Walter asked Stewart why does he not have a compressor, and as he said he did not have one, Walter started to make fun of him. Then Walter offered Stewart HIS compressor. They looked in the back of Walter's car for the compressor. "How do you find anything in here?" Stewart asked. "I have everything I need here. Keep looking" said Walter. They did find the compressor. Trouble was, it runs of AC current, and we have no access to that in the middle of nowhere. Walter looks at the power lines 200 meters away, and says "there is power there, we just need to get up and connect it" "You only have a 2 pin plug. Won't work" came the reply from Stewart!! "Wait! Wait! I have another compressor" says Walter. They looked again for 10 minutes, and sure enough, they found a battery operated compressor. It was DEAD! Not charged. "We can plug it in the cigarettes lighter" said Stewart. "where is the cable?" They found the cable. It only plugs into an AC outlet! By this time I have finished topping up my tires, so passed the hose to Walter Junior, who proceeded to fill Stewart's tires. Maktoum has a fat tire bike. He promised to bring it along next time. That should be fun. I will post photos from the drone later on.

There is NO END to the pure entertainment value of these latest posts! Those pics of Walter 'body surfing' down the sand dune are priceless! Damn, how is it that you all do not literally laugh yourselves sick?!!

Well, next Friday should be fun. MAKTOUM is bringing a fat bike. I managed to get a proper badminton set. Should be interesting!

"Interesting" will likely prove, once again, to be an understatement! These pics are rivaling the Funny Friday posts in the Humor Section! Looking forward to it! By the way, do any of the guys sandboard or sand ski on any of these outings? It looks like there might be some good areas to do so out there. Might be easier than doing "The Walter"!

Yes, they do sand board here, but in another area with bigger dunes.

Went out this morning. Managed to have breakfast before the wind picked up - and everyone was busy riding a e fat bike - returning to see all the food covered in sand Lots of people were out there. Lots getting stuck - including Maktoum, as he fell in a hole and had to be helped out. No wildlife at all - too many people I suppose. Except one dead by the road run over. First time I ride an ebike. Great fun. Pictures are coming.

Outstanding pics! Why does that one golden colored vehicle appear to have solar panels on top of it?(The one being towed out of the sand dune- )
|
Administrator |
That is Maktoum's car, and they are solar panels. He spends a lot of time in the desert, so has those solar panels to get power. As you can see, one can get stuck anywhere in the sand. He had a bike rack on his car, and as he went down one dune, hit bottom, hat to drive up another. The bottom between the dunes is too short, so he got hung up! Maktoum is our desert expert, so it was great to see him get stuck. We arrived there earlier than him, and this is how the conversation went. He called while we were waiting. "I am a bit late. You all go ahead, and I will meet you there. I assume you are going to the same spot?" "I have no idea where that exact spot is, so we are only going to drive about a kilometer in" "No problem. I will follow your tracks. I will find you" "How will you know which tracks are ours? There about half a million tracks here going in every direction!" "Don't worry. I will find you" Off we went. Found a nice spot and stopped. A few minutes later Maktoum calls. "I am stuck!" I repeated the word STUCK so everyone heard it. Laughter all around! "I cannot see you. I can see that whole open area and the trees. Where are you stuck?" "I went between the three trees and single tree. I am closer to the single ghaf" "I still cannot see anyone there except people camping a bit further in" "Send Stewart. He will find me" "Stewart, Madtoum is stuck. Can you drive back and help him? "Where abouts is he?" "Just get into your bloody car and go. I will fly the drone and guide you there" Someone else said "Don't follow the drone. He will send you into another hole too!" The trust one gets from his friends warms your heart!

Saeed: What is your opinion on the E bike with fat tires? Is it quiet? How far can you go on its charge? I hear that a lot of hunters get them to get around quietly and quickly.
|
Administrator |
My brother, who is a biker, and goes biking all over the world long distance, is getting me one. Apparently it has a range of 180 kilometers on a charge, can get fully charged in 3.5 hours, and gets 80% charge in 2.5 hours. Top speed is 32 kilometers per hour. Maktoum says it is a better bike than the one he has, and he goes on that all over the place. It is very quiet, and runs very well. I wanted to go into some places which are quite difficult by 4 wheel drive, because of the shape of the dunes, and as sometimes go on my own, I don't want to get stuck in some place which might require hard work or assistance. My daughter has taken up biking, and we got her a new bike last week. She used to used her old bike, which is a normal bike, before. The new one is a starter racing bike, and she shaved off 15 minutes off her best time from using the old bike. I have several friends who do biking quite a lot. We are going to have a long distance race when I get my bike! I will set the course - through the desert! I can imagine those racing bikes with their very narrow, hard tires, managing that!

Hessa did her 38 kilometer bike ride. She is training for some crazy sport where people compete in running swimming and cycling! While she was doing that, I had a great morning filming an expert micro light pilot skimming over the sand dunes. At some points he was making tracks with his feet!! Tomorrow it is the geriatrics breakfast in the desert. The sad part is the younger ones who suffer Maktoum is bringing some motorized contraption, no idea what. Saturday we have a whole bunch of kids and adults going quad biking. I can spend the rest of the week after that making bullets for my 6.5 Creedmor, as I have no 0.264 caliber bullets left.

Walter and Walter were supposed to join us. Apparently their women had other plans, so the two wimps chicken out from asserting their authority! Wind was blowing, and Ken broke Maktoums Polaris! Drove it over the edge fast and broke a belt! Some attempted to play badminton, the feathery bit kept going backwards than forward! Almost as bad as asking Trump to tell the truth! But, we had a nice breakfast - off the back of the car!! Looking forward to tomorrow quad biking!

Any interesting pics to share of that 'fantastic fun'? Young and old together like that, in your neck of the world, should produce some sort of viable entertainment and stories! You need to organize an outing that includes the womenfolk, especially the voluntary caregivers of the two Walters! Now, that would be a MUST SEE!

Pictures are coming. We met the quads in that open area by the trees. A friend and his daughter never been on quad bikes. The man who runs the company with the quads is rather big, and I have not seen him for a while. He is about three quarters the size of a camel. I said to him "soon you will be catching up with those camels in size, and no where near as good looking" Someone behind me, laughing, said "Saeed is being nice again!" The big guy just laughed, and said "that is what my wife says. Nice to see you again sir!" No snow flakes in this lot! We stopped by one of the larger dunes, to fly the drone and photograph them. They had a blast, going all over the place. I had to go through 11 batteries - good thing I had 19 in my bag. I also learned a trick flying a drone. The Smart Remote has a built in battery, so cannot be replaced. And the battery cannot last as long as I want to use it. So I found that if I carry a large capacity power pack with USB C charging port, I can have that plugged in the remote while flying, and never run out of power. In some of the photos you might see wires coming out of my pockets. The desert was full of people. Some were camping, some were dune bashing, and just enjoying the solitude there. Even saw my friend on his microlight flying. He came over in the afternoon to my workshop to get some helmets modified to fit ear muffs! And with a full workshop - where Super Glue and a Dremel tool are used very often, we got everything fixed! As Hessa said, if you look hard enough here, you can find a cow and its mother!

Our peace and quiet is over! Two wives have expressed their desire to join us. One of them has called me every name under the sun. And all I did was leave a large box of ear plugs at her door with sign saying “YOU NEED TO WEAR A PAIR OF THESE BEFORE YOU GO IN! DANGEROUSLY LOUD NOISES ARE GENERATED WITHIN!” Good thing we will be in the open!
