I wouldn't worry about it too soon Vapo!

Get your pup and have a great time getting to know him/her while he gets familiar with you and his new home. Play a lot.

Soon your pup will name himself. Big Grin

I vote for letting the dog name it's self. Our Black lab that is currently at my feet is named nibbles due to that she nibbled on anything and everybody when she was young. Now we simply call her nibby. our last lab was heidi from this post it seems it was a popular name.

Yes, very much so....it has a pedigree of very impressive stature....but that's not why I'm getting her...it's because her parents are marvelous pointing dogs and great hunter/retrievers.

Here's how I named mine...

My first lab I named Bounce, after my Grandfather's Water Spaniel. I thought it was a great name and I loved my Grandfather. It came to fit him well as he would jump straight up and down as high as eye level at supper time.

He had a "surprise" breeding while my buddy and I were on a goose hunt in "Dalhart", TX. My buddy's female was in heat and he didn't know. The litter was "made" in the middle of the decoys in a field.

I kept a female pup and named her "Bounce's Dalhart Surprise"....Dal is her every day name.

I bred Dal to the Ducks Unlimited Dog of the Year's pup that my buddy won at the shot show by taking a "chance" in a lottery drawing at a duck call manufacturer's booth. He named his pup "Chance".

I kept the most "beautiful" female pup from the litter. She was the alpha of the litter "fiercely" showing dominance over the other litter mates.

I named her "Dal's Fierce Beauty".....Beaute is her name

I hope you get the drift...

You and your new pup will soon discover the name and it will be chosen by you two together.

My current chocolate is named Charlie....after the peanuts cartoon creator....Charlie Brown.
My dog is brown and I've always liked the name Peanut as I once had a Beagle named Peanut....so the dots connected and I named him Charlie.

If I'd have done as you suggested, My chocolate would have been named Whiskey...because he's brown and such a "liquor" animal

Vapo, pick a name that suits you. I have my next 5 already named. I don't buy into the one syllable name mindset. If the dog has a brain, it will learn it's name---quickly. Mine, Atticus and Artemis have no problems w/ their names.

If you field trial or hunt test your dog, it is best to keep it one or two sylables. And try not to have it sound like here, back, over or sit. Even Lean Mac's call name was "Max". Mac sounds to close to "Back".
My males are "Pete", "Hammer" and "Diesel".
My favorite female name is Daisy. It seems it is just about everyone else's favorite also.
Those yellows just about disapear in the corn stubble.
Have fun with here.

Flint.

That's what my son named our yellow lab because he found her wandering around the Flint River here in GA.

You might consider naming your dog after a local river or other site--

I just thought of a couple of great names for your female Lab if you are gonna "pre-name" her!

Sheniqua or Tenisha

But, then again, you did say your pup was a yellow Lab!

When we got our lab my wife and I had been arguing over the name for almost 2 weeks. When we went to pick him up the breeder said he came out kind of Red so I been calling him Red. My wife and I looked at each other and say that's his name! He has been Red ever since both in color and name.

Sooner or later you are going to exclaim: "God **** it! or God **** you!"

You might want to call her "God" which is Dog spelled backwards! Maybe, 'Goddess'.

When I picked out my yellow lab pup, I was dating a girl named Amanda. I asked her for her input and she says "Charlie". I knew things with her wouldnt last too long but I like the name. At my job, my call sign is Charlie 462... It was a fitting name as she suggested it and it kinda fits him perfectly.

Here he is with a coyote he helped with:

And him with his "big brother" Ojos
