Our Aussie's feet get balled up terribly with snow during Winter hikes and skiing. Last winter I tried a couple of different brands of booties for her but she simply refused to leave them on for any duration before stopping mid trail and tugging them off.

I took her for a snow-hike tonight in the mountains and she was constantly at her feet picking at balled snow between her toes.

Anyone have any luck getting their dog over resistance to wearing the darn things?

I use them on my springers when I hunt blue grouse in an area with a lot of sharp shale that destroy dog paws. At first my dogs tried to chew them off but the excitement of the hunt they forgot that they are wearing them. Try to do an activity that your dog loves like fetch or whatever gets your dog excited. My springers have the same problem with snow so I trim the hair between the toes as good as possible (my dogs hate foot trimming ) this helps a lot.

We tried 3 pair with our dogs. They did not fit properly, so the dogs would not run with them on their feet. We returned the booties.

Thanks for the replies. I'm leary of spending another $100 to try booties this year though that price was refunded on return last year. I'll trim her feet up good and see if that makes a difference. I tried last year but she put up such a fight I gave up.

My wife the dog groomer made the suggestion that you take your dog to a groomer to have the feet trimmed. Your dog might let a stranger do it with less fuss than someone that your dog was familiar with. apparently this is quite common with many of her clients .

Down here on the TX coast, I boot my Lab to keep his paws from getting cut up by oyster shells when we duck hunt. I know you've heard it has all sorts of uses, but duct tape IS the answer. I use the Lewis rubber dog boots from Oklahoma. First, wrap duct tape around your dogs ankle. Then, tape the boot to the tape on the ankle. Order (2) sets of boots b/c you will lose at least one. The dogs hate them, but will get use to them w/ a little reminder to leave them alone.
