Do any of you use these and if so what brand ?

From my understanding the use of extension tubes increases the macro capabilities of a lense. I have zero knowledge about these items. I can purchase a new rokunar 12mm AF extention tube for my Canon Elan 7 for $50. I was just curious to see what you guys think about them and if you think they are worth messing with. It certainly is less expensive then buying a new lense.

They are a great way to allow for closer focusing of a lens. For some animals like butterflies, you can use a long lens at closer ranges.

There are multiple lengths of extension tubes and they can be coupled to each other allowing for closer focusing. They do put the lens further away from the camera and with a long telephoto, you will want to be careful.

Do the various exposure metering modes still work when the tubes are in place ??
