I gave em two tips,

Before hunting deer, apply Neosporen (or another bactericide ointment) in the armpit area. It kills the odor-causing bacteria that deep pick up on.

To preserve a squirrel tail for display soak it in rubbing alcohol overnight. First, split partway down, pull out the bone, and then run a sharp wire through the rest of the tail to make sure nothing blocks the alcohol soaking all of the way through.
