boom stickWhat to do when the 308 Marlin Express guns go cheap. Make a 30-30 Express!
Being that reloading the 308 MX is futile...
To get decent performance I say cut the 9,3X64 brass to 2" and neck it to 30-30 bullets.
The extra 40 thou in casehead increase at reasonable preasure will make it a 30-30 on steroids. It would have the same capacity as the 30-06
Call it the 30-30 Express!
Now THAT would be a leverevolution

buckeyeshooterThe only thing is that the facotory leverevolution loads in my 308 shoot 1 hole groups at 100 yards for 3 shoots and 5 are well under an inch if you give the barrel time to cool inbetween shots. I have starting working on reloads using the 150 grain hornady RN and varget. Still at 2 inches --but at least the speed is close with the lighter bullet. Not much need to reload for this one-- it will be hard to improve speed or accuracy.

boom stickwell I think it would be kinda neet since going from a sub 308 win capacity to a 30-06 capacity with minimal mod to the gun. Just a rechamber. keeping it to 40,000 psi max it would be a good performer.

boom stickOk how about a 30-70???
Turn down the rim and add an extractor groove on a 45-70 case.
Reason being the rim needs to be the same thickness of the 30-30 rim for the extractor to work well on a stock 30-30. Also the 45-70 casehead is the same diameter as the 30-30 rim.
use 300 win mag reamer to the depth of 2.050" and shortened 300 win mag dies if possible.
the extra space capacity figure close to a 30-06 will help keep preasure low and performance up. Sounds like fun to me.
