Many of you have expressed concern over the trajectory of a 200 yard shot with a 44 rifle. You are correct, however when shooting a 44 rifle at 200 yards you need to use the same techniques you would with a 30-06 at 400 yards. IE, have a range finder when hunting. Test you rifle at 25 yard increments out to 200 yards. This will also show you if you have enough accuracy to make that kind of shot. None of the 44 rifles I have owned were accurate enough for that kind of shot, due I think, to the bbl twist. The ultimate "rule beater" for the new regs just might be a 454, with 250 gr jacketed bullets in a 20" bbled Ruger No1. Why a No1??? It should be strong enough to take full power 454 loads. I have seen some factory Browning single shot rifles in 45 Colt and 44 Mag, but do not know how strong they are. They did look and handle nice. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

So far I have tried 180, 240, 265 and 300gr bullets. I am not a heavy bullet fan but the 300gr XTP will half the group size of all bullets tried. As far as trajectory I have a Leupold with multi dots. Sighted in at 100yards the first dot is good at 130yds second dot at 160yds and the top of the bottom post is right on at 200yds. Only shot twice at 200 and both shots were about 2" to right of bullseye. As one post said 125yds is about max. Consistant accuracy is a problem with my Marlin and the Handirifle I tried past 75 to 100yds. To get any confidence out of anything past 125yds will take a lot of shootin. I have went through about 150 rounds so far and will do another 150 as soon as I get my 257rob load worked up.
