I want to load up some Cast Performance 460 grain WLN LBT GCs in my SS BLR. I want them be 1900 or so.
Real Guns can hit 1810, from a Win 94.

Hello 366T

I believe 1900+fps is possible.

What I have seen is the gun won't feed the 460 Cast. As a final note speeding up the hard cast actually reduces penetration.

I've hit 2250fps with 400gr jacketed bullets in my BLR, but I have never used cast bullets in it. Did you have your rifle throated out? How about using WSM magazines? These are two things I did to get the power I wanted from the .450 Marlin cartridge in my BLR.

What 400gr bullet did you get to feed?

Thanks
Mark

I was using Cutting Edge Bullets. Accuracy is what really surprised me.

Thanks guys! I'm going to try IMR 4227. Testing will be next week. Work keeps getting in the way of my life.
Also going to have a go with Barnes TTSX 300 grainer. I'll use 3031 or 4198 with that one.

If you will give me the exact length of the bullet and the seating depth you will be using, I will run it through QuickLoad to get you a starting load using 4227 and 4198 powders.

I use 300 factory Barnes in my 45-70 giving about 1900 .Work very well within 100 yds on deer up to 350 lbs .Probably beyond that weight and distance too.

Scrapped it. It doesn't have the panache of an 86 or 71.
Going to get my dream rifle. I've always wanted a Winchester 71, or reasonable facsimile, in 450 Alaskan. I made the mistake of reading Wildcats volume 1 & 2.
I have dies, Jamison 348 brass, now need rifle and reamer.

I also have a Siamese Mauser in pristine shape, but, that's for another forum.

I have been playing with a newer win71 that I had converted to the 450 Alaskan,I am shooting 400 gr bullets @ 2200 fps, pretty happy with it,350's gave me 2400 fps, loaded with the right bullet I think it will do well on everything except maybe the real big stuff like Cape Buff or Elephant.
