Can I be part of the "Band" now???
Just got me a Marlin 1895G (new model with no porting). I've been wanting an 1895 in .45-70 for awhile now, but couldn't make up my mind between the regular 1895 and the Guide Gun - stayed awake at night ponderin' it quite awhile.
Anyway, I'm happy now . . . mostly. I haven't got to shoot it yet

, but will have dies, brass and bullets on the way this week

. Also, won an Ebay auction for an XS Receiver Sight this evening

. May get a scope mount for load development, but will use the receiver sight for hunting, etc. after that.
Later, Clint

DennisECongratulations! I'm on my second 1895 guide gun in 45-70. This one is stainless. Most fun rifle I've ever shot or owned! Have fun! Dennis

prof242Good for you! Have had several, but each time, a "friend" HAD to have mine due to my mods. My current one I keep hidden. Am now considering a stainless steel
rifle. I fired the guide gun with the ports, but for some reason, didn't like it. If I do get the stainless, will have the barrel cut back to 20 or 20 & 1/2 inches. Why? Because I like it and had it done to my current blue one. Why? Just cuz.

Rick RYou'll be surprised when you get to the load development part. It's hard to find a load that won't shoot well in a GG.

Just remember, you can't mention .45-70 and Dangerous Game in the same topic.

billinthewildWhen you start loading, try the Nosler 300 grain partition. Accurate and effective. And enjoy the rifle.

And until you start loading the Winchester factory ammo using the NPT is wicked accurate, at least in my Guide Gun. For playing around the 405 @ 1200 is hard to beat. Enjoy!

RollandSince I could never find a lever in 45-70 I built my own 45-70 mainly for pigs. Actually I built two.
