i was thinking about the 510 gnr and thought to myself..."self"...what about two canalures on the 50-110???

in the blr with its high psi or cup rating and 300 w.m. action you could use two canalures on a long throated 300 wm 50-110 converted blr Big Grin

a 50-110 blr conversion owner i know pushes 525 gr bullets @ 2300 fps (granted that is hot) so why not make a double canalure 510 large meplat bullet that will stick out an extra tenth of an inch or more and have a serious stopper. 2300 fps is all you need when throwing around an ounce of lead or custom solid so i thought this was a neet idea...excuse me while i duck behind the couch now sofa

Hey, that's a great idea! Have them sort of like the Speer .458" 400 grainer. They could be used in 50 Alaskans and 50-110s leverguns with no problem or seated out for single shots, doubles or 50 Alaskan leverguns with room to spare like on the 1886/71 action. I think a 500 grain bullet would be a good compromise if it to also be used in the shorter Alaskan case.

Cheers,

Rich

this would be an official fire breathing beast for sure...

it needs a name...how about the 50-110 max suitable for buff and tembo's but most likely used for nasty alaskan coastal bears...or how about 50-110 kodiak...hmmmm?

does a 2300 fps 510 bullet in a lever action appeal to anyone but me?

I like the idea. I had a BLR in 7 mag that I intended to rebarrel, etc. to 416 Taylor. I had contacted z-hat.com about doing the work, but in the end I succumbed to my love of bolt guns and sold the BLR to buy a .338. I still like the idea, but my concern at the time was about the overall reliability of the lever gun when used in the backcountry for an extended period of time, with the possibility of wet, freezing weather. I can shoot follow up shots a lot faster with a lever gun.

to get the 2300 fps would require the browning b.l.r. it technicaly is a bolt gun with a lever but the action strength is the issue...but the beauty is if it would work in a 1886 the "long nose" or "max" or "kodiak" whatever it comes out to be will have more case room and therefore lower preasure or more horsepower...this would give extra ooomph even in a lower preasure rated gun thumb thumb

gs custom flat nose
http://www.gsgroup.co.za/03fn.html
these bullets with its multiple canalures give the best option...

aparently in the blr you can seat the bullet out to about 3.4" (458 win mag is 3.34")

this combo would be devestating on d.g. @ 2300 fps!!!

a true d.g. lever gun Big Grin

Let me get this right...
You want to touch off a 510gr slug at 2300fps out of a 7.5 lb rifle.

Lets see, the Buff falls down hurt, pissed and bleeding. You fall down hurt, bleeding and wondering "WTF hit me?" Eeker And whoever gets up first wins... that about it?

That thing sounds awfull to shoot.

I might try it once Smiler

so if my calculations are correct you could stuff woodleighs 500 jeff or 500 nitro bullets in the 50-110 and still cycle in the blr...so if you are looking for lobing big bullets this is it in a lever Big Grin damn, i want one...
