Is that a 470 Turnbull or 475 Turnbull? If both cartidges exist what are their differences? What are the case dimensions of the cartridge you show in your post? Thank You.

This is the 470, the case is 2.050 oal, as the 475 is 2.200 oal. the shoulder is thinner on the 470 and it feed in the Marlin with vertually no modification needede. The 475 will not go in a Marlin with out major work. You can shoot the 470 in the 475 as the neck is supported in the throat. I have Starline 470 and 475 head stamp brass being made and should be here is a few weeks. The Barnes bullets that I had made for the 475 will also work inthe 470 as the OAL will be 2.550" SO there will be 350 400 TS and 400 mand 450 solids that will work in both cartidges. The OAL of the 475 with the Barnes bullets is 2.700" and you can use the Aframe Woodleigh and speer 500 grain in the 475 but not in the 470.
The case shape, dimensions and oal are very similare to the 450 alaskan. The 470 Turnbull case oal is 2.050 wiht that I have a number of bullets that will work very well with it and the coal is 2.55". I had Hawk make some 400 fp that have a cannalure at .500 from the nose and give greeat added case capacity for the powder.
I am not understanding "The Need For" when a 420 grain cast bullet out of the 45-70 can easily reach 1850 fps in a Guide Gun at below 35,000 CUP with the right powder?
I am not trying to be rude, but why?

OVER THE COUNTER AMMO. SAFETY The one real reason is that you can not put a 470 Turnbull into a gun that might blow up ie: a trap door or other 45-70 of light pressure manufacturing. That is the real reason, safety. So any manufactured ammo loaded to a certain load designed for the capabilities of the cartridge it won't go into a lesser strength gun. The same as the 475 Turnbull. Yes you can load a 45-70 or 45-90 to the same power. BUt the 475 Turnbull will not go into another gun and create pressure problems. That is the reason that Marlin did what they did with the 450 Marlin and the different rim design than the 458 win mag. Safety is one issue that manufactures look at when they build what they do. The first question they look at is what will it fit into or not into. That is why I built the cases as I did. SAFETY!!
yes that is right. The bore and groove is .475-.467
I will have Barnes 350gr. and 400gr TSX also 400 and 450 solids. Hawk is making a 400 FP with a cannalure at .500 from the nose. This gives added case capacity / Velocity. I have been using a twist rate of 1-18 and 1-16 and having great success.
