My wife has finally decided that she is interested in trying some pistol shooting. She has tiny hands that fit the Walther P-22 and Browning Buckmark well enough, but her fingers are two short to get a good hold on the Ruger Mkii trigger. She also feels that the Buckmark and the Ruger are too heavy.

I need a 22lr pistol that weighs less than the 39 ounce Buckmark but is more accurate than the 16 ounce P-22. It also needs a threaded barrel; she started shooting with suppressed firearms and is not willing to go back. The silencer I have is only 4 ounces, so it does not add too much.

What is out there that has a weight of no more than 30 ounces and a 1/2-28 threaded barrel of at least 3 inches.

The Sig Mosquito seems like it might be a good fit, any other suggestions? Thanks.

I also have small hands and short fingers. I like the feel of the Walther p22. It fits my hand great. And I own a pk380 that I really like. The mark ii is popular but, I don't like it either. I've read a review on firearmstalk that had me leaning towards the Walther. But, subsequent posts from owners complain of ftf and accuracy problems. Now, I'm looking at the Ruger Sr22. The Sr9c and LC9 fit my hand great, so I'm thinking the Sr22 might be a nice fit as well. Its 17.5 ounces. I'm also looking at gsg 1911 22. I've read a great review on it. But, I haven't actually held one, so I don't know how well it'll fit me. Just some ideas...

A few years ago I went on a search for a super lightweight .22 auto to carry while out bird hunting.

Normally when you go super light you end up going super small. After investigating and looking at a lot of mouse guns, and the Bersa/Firestorm .22 came the closest to my needs with accuracy, I went with a Pac-Lite barrel on my older Ruger 22/45 MKII.

It had a net reduction in weight of about 12-14 oz as the older barrel on the Ruger was a bull barrel. I had feeding problems with it and took it back to them for a tune up and about a week later got it back and now it feeds all the bulk and premium stuff well.

Until I got used to the light weight, I had a hard time wringing any accuracy out of it. Using a bench rest the accuracy was phenomenal but still can be a challenge for me as I was used to heavy weights to aid in holding a steady sight picture.

You can order them with a threaded barrel, many length and colors. Prices are now around $250 and need to go through a licensed dealer as the barrel assembly is part of the numbered receiver.

All in all I was happy with the final result after it was tuned up and am learning to shot it better. It's great on varmints with good ratios out to about 50-60 yards thanks to the front site being a green light tube.

You might look into them and see if that's a good fit. A Ruger 22/45 with the polymer frame and that Pac-lite barrel.

Break-action Stevens?

If you have to have a suppressor then I don't know, the very small .22 autos are not noted for being the most reliable. For small hands (no suppressor) you might try a S&W kit gun, either 2" or 4". They work very well and the standard grips are really small.

I have a Sig Mosquito (with a threaded barrel). It is a nice gun. However, with my (Gemtech) G 5 (223) suppressor you cannot use the sights! Gun cycles fine with subsonic rounds.

i am not being nitpicking, and i assume you meant to say barreled receiver, however the pac-lite is a receiver AND barrel, and is therefore another serialized part, as the serialized receiver is the "firearm", therefore you have both a ruger and pac-lite 22 pistol. just like, though reversed, changing a lower on an AR

I think that is right, for the Ruger. However, for the Browning Buckmark, you can get just the barrel from pac-lite, hence no "firearm" issues.

Do you know of any High Standard model 22 autos around to handle? They are similar to the Ruger but I find them a bit different in the way they hold, but in a good way.

An even better option might be the old Browning Nomad. They are not all that common around here, but they're out there.

Both the High Standard and Browning Nomad are not as plug and play for a can as the Ruger and Buckmark, however, depending on the barrel configuration.

Also the Colt Cadet 22 is another option.

Sorry, a list of discontinued pistols probably does not help much if there are none around to try out!

My wife has no issues with her P22's accuracy.

P22's ROCK and they are as accurate as I can hold them.

Another great choice is Rugers new SR .22. Most shooters speak highly of it and seem they can digest a lot of different brands of ammo. About $300 street price. They sort of look like a P22 clone.
