I stopped in at BIG 5, to see if they had any 22 ammo. The Federal bulk they advertised @ $19.99 was all gone( of course ), but they had a few bricks of AmericanEagle brand for the same price. O.K. I'll take a brick of that. I left them in the bag in the back of my car for about 4 days, before I opened them to t take the kids shooting. Lo and behold.........the "brick" was ten boxes of 40 rounds!!!Eeker What a rip-off! I had not seen that..........ever! I guess you really have to read the lable..................DUH!

Not a happy camper!Mad

+1

I also have had good luck with the American Eagle 22 ammo. It's really the only one of the reasonably priced brands that shoot well in my 22's.

Regardless of the quality of the ammunition you HAVE been had. They sold you 400 rounds for the "same" price as 500 rounds. Rimfire ammuntion has been packaged forever in boxes of 50, sleeves of 500, and cartons of 5,000. Sometimes it is marketed in plastic boxes of 100. It has NEVER been packaged in boxes of 40. Federal is clearly taking advantage of consumers by selling them "underweight" packages of ammunition. Its the same thing as putting 26 ounces in a "quart" of milk. The retailer should have made it clear that they were offering you less ammunition than you thought you were buying.

I don't care if the cases were gold-plated and there was a diamond embedded in the tip of every bullet. YOU'VE BEEN HAD!

"Sir, these are sold by the BOX"
"you don't sell by the brick"

"Get the manager"

You think that's bad: Labatt's (Canadian beer) is served here in 11.5 oz bottles! If you thought you could drink a half case, you could REALLY drink 25.

I have since learned that they have always sold this ammo (38 gr. ) in 400 round boxes. The 40 gr loads come in a 500 round brick.
But, hey the stuff shoot great in my "annie" and my Henry!
Yeah, that's 38 gr!.............when will I learn to read?

Right. For some inexplicable reason, Federal packages their AE 38 gr. HP ammo in boxes of 40, and the AE 40 gr. solid ammo in boxes of 50.

I don't know why they do it, but it seems like a rip-off. I wish that if they really have to make the HP stuff more expensive, they would just package it regularly and increase the price tag.

At least now you know for next time. Or if it happens to work decently, it isn't really so terribly expensive anyway. And, many people on this forum say it works well for them.
