Hey Tankhunter, I have one of the slightly older M880SS Marlins. If you look at this thread, a buddy of mine has a M980 and has been doing a bit of accuracy work on it. I'm happy with my M880 with only a bit of Trigger work and a change to a Ball Point Pen Spring that I did myself.

But my buddy would like his to shoot in the 3s at 50yds all the time. He has shimmed the sides of the Trigger to remove a slight bit of lateral movement, took the Bolt apart and "polished" the surfaces that touch moving pieces.

Next up he was going to Test Shimming the Bolt Face to "slightly" increase the Tension on a Seated Cartridge. He had gone through some Rim Thickness Sorting and thought the groups "might" be improved with the Thinner Rim Cartridges having the Bolt Face a bit closer - less Head Space. He had it going real well and his wife began having some health issues, so this has moved way down in priority.

Here is a nice report by Bartsche on a Heavy barrel Savage 22LR and a bit more about the same Savage here.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the Marlin, because I'm real happy with mine. But Bartsche's Savage has some great potential too. I got to do a good bit of 25yd testing with it last year and found that it prefers some brands over others - just like all 22Rimfires.

Did a good bit of Weight Sorting and it looks like that helps some of the ammo a good bit, but it is time consuming.
