Anyone tried the 17 HMR out of a revolver yet? A local store has a couple on clearance with 4" barrels. How bad will the cylinder gap and short barrel affect this round. They are marked down pretty bad, I was wondering if there is a good reason for it.

Thanks.

I have NO experience with this combo. Don't even know anyone who has. That said it's not something that sounds particularly interesting to me. The HMR's forte is pin point accuracy at long (for rimefire) range. Acheiving this in a 4" revolver would be a feat in any chambering. Asside from just being fun to shoot what exactly would be the purpose of such a gun? Further if "fun" is the only goal a .22LR or even a WMR would fill the bill with A LOT cheaper ammo.

I have a taurus model 17 Silhouette. Its a revolver with a 12 inch barrel, I just got it 2 weeks ago and put a cheap bsa red dot scope on that i had layin around, From an iffy rest at 50 yards i was getting a little over a 2 inch group. I have a scope coming any day from midway hopefully it will help out.Do a google search for taurus 17hmr revolvers, it will come up with a few good tests.

my S&W has the 8" bbl. quite a bit of fun. sight it in at 25 yds and shoot straight on to over 100. not to noisy, nonexistant recoil etc. ended up scoping the thing because it really deserves it, also cause i can't see the sights anymore

Smith & Wesson 647-1 Performance Center Varminter, 12" barrel
Remington 17gr AccuTip avg 2200FPS
The revolver consistently shoots within MOA with whatever ammunition I feed it.

Next time out I'll chrono a different load for the little revolver.
I brought it out as the 'chrono setup trigger' as I was chronographing bog bore rifle loads today.
