FACT OR FICTION? AR VS OTHER SITES Login/Join

I frequent a couple of forums that cover Afican hunting and bowhunting which are my primary interests. However I always end up coming back to AR. One thing that has struck me is that other forums (in this case "Africa hunting.com) claims to have thousands of guests viewing the site at any one time whilst AR can have only a few members (like right now for example). Are the figures on the other sites pure BS designed to lure advertisers? Is AR in decline? Can one of the moderators give some comment on whether AR is growing, static or declining?
Just really curious

I got the following numbers from alexa.com

Alexa ranks websites on their activities.

# 1 would be the most active website in the world and so on.

Alexa ranks AR as 397,410
Alexa ranks Africanhunter as 25,031,528.

I hope this helps.

Other forums may not expire sessions when the visitor leaves the site, giving the impression that there are lots of people viewing the site at that moment in time.

Also, this site allows you to hide your presence if you choose to do so; there may hundreds of people who have taken this option.

I am registered on a few advertising-supported sites that do not allow this.

Don't know that numbers matter much to me. They might matter to advertisers, which we don't have!!!!
What matters to me is information and I seem to get good stuff on this website. That and the integrity of the owner and the moderators.

I doubt very much AR is in decline.

But, for interests sake Saeed, did you find the Alexa ranking on "Africahunting.com" vs "Africahunter"? Thanks.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I think some of you might have misunderstood the above numbers.

The lower the number, the more poplular it is.

AR has almost 63 TIMES the activity of Africanhunter.

Not so sure why everyone else is here, but I am always looking for good information I can trust. Most of the time that is just what I get here at AR. From watching the birth of a fine Bradshaw double falling block to buying a couple of nice rifles at good deals here.

Yes there are some snobs here (purists that try it impose their standards on everyone else) and there are slobs here too. If you are patient and listen to the posters with some common sence you will get useful info.

The best thing I got out of AR was a hunt for my 13 yr old daughter. (her first big game hunt) L. David Keith of "GRAY GHOSTS SAFARIS" found us a Black bear hunt that is just what we needed. In June she and I will take her Great Grandfathers rifle to Idaho and if things go well she will take her first big game animal.

The AR brotherhood has made another dream of mine come true. I was able to get in on the lefthanded Zastav group buy. I have never owned a NIB rifle in my life, or a Lefty. I have always shot semi auto's and lever guns. I am like a kid waiting on Christmas. Long story but it all boils down to one thing....None of this would have happened if it were not for Saeed and AR...and when I need a laugh I just go read some of Walters antics and my day is better.

Thanks Saeed and thanks to all the mods that keep things somewhat civil.

Regards,
Cheshire

Saeed, interesting information on web site activity. I found alexa.com to be a useful resource.

As others have said this is a good source of solid, useful information. My wife and I selected the outfitters (www.zingelasafaris.com) for our last African hunt after reading positive reports here, and later arranging to meet the outfitters at an SCI show. We couldn't have been happier with the choice.

We used the "Tips and Packing List" by T. Carr and found it an absolutely dependable, thorough resource, with many ideas we hadn't considered.

I've also enjoyed talking cameras and photography with Saeed, Wink, and others who clearly know what they are talking about. Got a very good tip from member "cjw" on a carrying case.

Other things I like: this is not a "commercial"forum so there are no ads. There's very little bad language, personal attacks, rude or uncivil behavior. Like Captain Woodrow F. Call, I hate rude behavior in a man. Won't tolerate it.

While I don't have the time to look in every day or post often, I consider this site one of my important resources.

I can't begin to tell you what an asset AR is to me. Incredible information/experience base, eagerly shared. The people I have met here and become friends with, the campfires shared, have enriched my life, all because of AR. This is the great social media.

I have met more fellow hunters that have become friends than you can believe on AR. I have always taken family with me when I hunt - making sure I will have loved ones to share the hunt and experience with when I come home. HOWEVER, you can subject your family to only SO MUCH African hunting. That is where AR takes over. In any one given place there just isn't that many guys who are into.....or can afford to......or can open their minds to hunting in Africa. But worldwide --- there are a bunch of friends out there. AR is our link to many others who think alike. Sometimes!

AR is a huge part of my day. I have met some of the greatest folks here, that have become very good friends. We are of like mind, have the same interests, the same goals, and my life and experiences have been enriched as Rusty says as well. When I am out of country or out of touch with my AR pals, I do in fact miss it, and wonder what my buds are up to, and its one of the first things I look for as soon as I return.

On my browser, AR is my homepage, I open it up, goes straight to AR. I really don't have time nor the inclination to go to other sites, so AR is home base for me.

I too thank Saeed for his insight for making AR available to us.

Thanks to all who make it possible!

Michael
