Just wanted to remind the moderators of what we lost because this banner. ddj The best part of hunting and fishing was the thinking about going and the talking about it after you got back - Robert Ruark

Personally I see it in jest.....not that I'm a big fan of this habit...it just comes with Ar....like it or leave it. ddj is a fine fellow and one of the folks I share PMs with....so in case you didn't know....Allen Day died of cancer a couple months ago. I, for one, would be just as happy if we quit associating this annual event with his name. He's gone now.....lets let him go in peace. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." That is a good point Vapodog and will change my post. I don't see the point in a banner that aggrevates people. ddj The best part of hunting and fishing was the thinking about going and the talking about it after you got back - Robert Ruark

Pagans are people, too. Seriously, Allen Day left AR because of a number of issues, not just the above banner. He left the Campfire over some of those same issues, so your post was not only inane, it was pointless. George P.S. This is NOT a bitch-and-moan forum.

Very sorry to hear that Allen passed away but I do think he was wrong on this particular subject. For example, I have a brother who shoots everything from muzzle loaders to (literally) cannons and is a keen hunter.............. and also a Wiccan. It's not my cup of tea but working on the principle of marking every religious holiday, whether 'Mo'ammed, God, or Shiva' (to slightly misquote Rudyard Kipling from his poem 'The Mother Lodge') then this one is as valid as any other. http://www.daypoems.net/poems/1866.html

Lets also not forget that many other memorable dates such as the 11th day of the 11th month are also marked. I for one am all for marking ALL memorable dates. I just hope he doesn't forget St George's day!

And, for the umpteenth time, the Solstice and Yule banner was put up because we have Wiccan members. Why can't they celebrate their faith? I never meant any harm by it, and find the intolerance of some members here distasteful. Don

Sadly, St. George's Day has gone unrecognized for a long time. Don, April 23 from this day forward, buddy! George

I agree that they are people, I would like to see AR allow us to wish each other greetings for which ever holiday or event we believe in. Let the Christians wish each other a Merry Christmas, the Jews a Happy Hanukkah, Wiccan Merry Solstice, and ect. Maybe I am sheltered and sensitive by the fact that I am living in the Midwest but it seems like the banners have some moderator influence. I do appreciate AR and the members here. To many of you, I could never repay the kindness and generocity you have shown me. Your knowledge has helped me with many projects and I continue to learn. Thank you and Merry Christmas! ddj The best part of hunting and fishing was the thinking about going and the talking about it after you got back - Robert Ruark

I am still hoping for the occasional atheist banner (which will be totally blank, of course) or maybe some African tribal holidays?

your wish has come true for many years now. i have never seen AR go a year without a banner in honour of christmas, easter, thanksgiving, independence day and other traditional american holidays.
i can guarantee that i am farther out in the boonies than you are, and even i know that there is a world out there and it isn't simply white bread only. i do not know what this moderator influence is that you refer to, but AR is an international site catering to everyone and i have never seen don or saeed refuse an accomodation when it was presented in a reasonable and respectful way - many times they have gone out of their way to grant a request even when it was presented in a rude way or not requested at all. if you have any specific requests or days that you think should have a banner, perhaps you should list them here. i am sure that the mangement will consider them. even if your requests are rejected, i can say with 100% certainty that you are getting your money's worth!

We'll have a total lunar eclipse tonight, too. I may have to paint myself blue for this one. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Merry Christmas: A tirade At work we have received about 50 cards, 49 of them are wishing our employees and myself a happy season (Fall, Spring and Summer apparently do not warrant such wishes of well being and joy...) One card stands out and is an honest to goodness Christmas card asking our company to celebrate the birth of Jesus. This I appreciate. In the event I am misrepresented as being politically incorrect or insensitive, or phobic about other cultures I'd like to say that I wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I really don't care too much about the "season”. My wish is an invitation to you, be you agnostic, or Jewish or Hindu or Muslim to share my joy and celebration for Christmas. Trust me, it is not an attempt to convert you or change your beliefs, it's simply my way of sharing my appreciation of my personal "Reason for the Season". Conversely: I will gladly respect, appreciate and celebrate with you, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, winter solstice, Eid ul-Adha and Eid ul-Fitr, Vesak, or any other ethnic, tribal, religious or seasonal event to which you are gracious enough to invite me. I don’t think I’m giving up my soul to say “thank you” if asked to have a “Happy Hanukkah. I’m not providing aid and comfort to the enemy if I appreciate being wished “Eid Mubaric”. And so, without caveat, or hidden agenda, or obfuscated intent, I wish you all my sincerest Merry Christmas. Collins

tendrams, may i wish you a happy saturday in advance. To the other members of this forum. 20 years of active duty so each could have there own. I don't take offense to the recogognition or lack of recognition of anyone's special day. For my brother's in arms who took offense to the lack of a Veteren's Day banner you really need to examine why you are offended because someone didn't say thank you with a banner? Did you enlist so someone would thank you or because you thought our country and way of life was worth defending? A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work.

Actually, this is the only day of the year when I am reminded of Allen Day because of Don's banner. For me, the winter solstice will always be Allen Day day. RIP I'll try to keep my eyes open long enough to view this particular total lunar eclipse on the solstice which last happened in 1638. The next one will be in 2094.

The Shortest Day by Susan Cooper So the shortest day came, and the year died, And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world Came people singing, dancing, To drive the dark away. They lighted candles in the winter trees; They hung their homes with evergreen; They burned beseeching fires all night long To keep the year alive, And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake They shouted, reveling. Through all the frosty ages you can hear them Echoing behind us – Listen!! All the long echoes sing the same delight, This shortest day, As promise wakens in the sleeping land: They carol, fest, give thanks, And dearly love their friends, And hope for peace. And so do we, here, now, This year and every year. Welcome Yule!! ****************** "Policies making areas "gun free" provide a sense of safety to those who engage in magical thinking..." I personally believe in moderation in all things. I also believe the "puritanical" of any faith creed etc are ALWAYS the biggest trouble makers and those in most in need of some time on a stake over a large fire. (or) locked in the wickerman... a bit of irreverence serves to identify those in NEED of a bit of goading... AD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! Those who manage to provoke themselves into other activities have only themselves to blame. *We Band of 45-70er's* 35 year Life Member of the NRA NRA Life Member since 1984

Happy...Hey! Look out for the wall!!...Season In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukkah' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!' or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall!' Dave Barry H. Fair enough - but then we Agnostics demand equal time. I think we should be entitled to our own holiday, which I propose to be WTF Day. Oh. Come to think of it I guess we already have that. All we have to do is go to the ARPF, where every day is WTF Day. Alright, cancel that request.

Hello! I have a great movie here explaing the winter solstice and it's relation to the more trendy U.S beliefs of today. If you're going to church soon you're not gonna like this movie. I warned you. You can skip the first 10 minutes. The rest of the movie.....lets hope you'll make it through. http://vimeo.com/13726978 fat chicks inc.

I for one REALLY miss Allen. He was a good guy. He and I met on several occasions. Religion never came up and he didn't wear it on his sleeve. Just hunting, politics, shooting, bullets, and internet characters. He was just a good man... -------- www.zonedar.com If you can't be a good example, be a horrible warning DRSS C&H 475 NE --------
