My Bansner came in finally!!!! It's an Ultimate Ovis in 7mm wsm. The scope is a Swarovski Z3 in 3-9x36mm. I put in for tags this year, but if I don't draw a sheep I'm headed for a Brooks Range sheep, grizzly, caribou, wolf hunt with a fellow AR hunting partner. Should be fun. Brett PS. Don't mind the 1870s linoleum. The black spots are divets in it not dirt. Range Report: LIGHTS OUT SHOOTING!!!!!!!!!!!!! My friend James just purchased a Kimber Montana in .338 win mag. I loaded up 225 grain TSX .050" off the lands with IMR 4350 for him and 150 grain Scirocco 2s .030" off the lands with IMR 4350 for my new 7mm wsm. To be fair I shoot 4 shot groups and disregard one monkey screw (my pet name for pulled shots) and take the good 3 or 4 shots that present themselves. James pulled out a stunning .255" 3 shot group at 100 yars and I shot a .36" group at 100 yards. James' Mine My load was 63.5 grains. I'm going to load up 63.25, 63.5, and 63.75 grains and try it out tomorrow. We'll see. Nice looking Sheep rifle! Tell me some particulars like whats it weigh and how long on the barrel and most of all how does it shoot! How do you like that scope? Very nice durable set up you have there. Should take care of every sheep, goat, moose and bear you come across for years to come.

Mark does not build a rifle that does not shoot extremely well and he can build it as light as your wallet can stand. He is VERY popular with the mountain/sheep hunter crowd. Unfortunately, this popularity carries a price...pardon the pun. I have two of his rifles and they are among the best. He has special machining procedures he takes that ensures the most accurate rifle outcome possible, which was highlighted in a gun rag some years ago. If it don't shoot, it don't leave the shop. Yes, tell us more about your rifle.

His rifles are nice, but I think Mark should have sold you the Talley lightweight 30mm rings to go with your rifle instead of the ugly Talley Split top.

7.4lbs scoped. 24". Not sure. I loaded for it this morning. Not sure if I'll get out this weekend to shoot it, but I'll let you all know. I'm going to shoot 150gr Swift Scirocco 2 at 3100-3150ish. The scope seems to be fantastic! Honestly though I haven't really put it through the ropes to really have a great feel for it. Honestly Tim.......I'm sure I'd take a bigger ram (or have a better chance to)in the Chugach or Alaska range, but the promise of adventure in the Brooks range has me so excited that I'm almost hoping I don't draw a sheep tag this year!!!! Bansner builts some seriously accurate rifles, congrats on your new one. Tom Webb built me a 375 H&H about 10 years ago at Bansners and I have taken it North of the Brooks Range for tundra grizzly and into the Zambezie Vally and many stops in between, you will be happy with your purchase. Shoot it, then shoot it some more and get your sheep. Wesley

Awesome rifle Brett. I am absolutely sure it will shoot & that you will love it even more once your hiking around with it in your mitts. I had Mark build me one prior to the "Ovis" namesake (1998), mine is a < 7lb 300 WM, it shoots & looks awesome. Jon Sundra actually had Mark build him one that replicates mine. Well as stated I have a dall sheep, caribou, grizzly, and wolf hunt lined up for my rifle in the Brooks Range this August. I just booked a new "test" for her today. I'm headed to Kyrgyzstan November of 2012 for Mid-Asian ibex! Right now my cousin and I are booked. Another cousin and my uncle may join us hunting out of another spike camp. Should be good fun!!! Be carefull with that Brett. I actully found a girl like that once or at least after I introduced her to the hunting part. She came along on many of my hunts but I found that half of the opertunitys at game I would give to her and half of those times she missed and she figured it was still her turn. I'm not sure why we broke up I'm sure my independent nature never totally lets a woman into my life had a lot to do with it. She's happy now with a guy who is more suited to her and she's now on the executive board with Alaska chapter S.C.I. ( you probably know her) Now the little girl I have with the next woman in my life who I'm probably not completly envolved with is growing up fast and wants to hunt. here we go again fortunantly being a dad has taught me to be more generous. Nice rifle Brett. I have always been a traditional wood stock guy but that is something else I have been matureing about and It is much easier to see the beauty of a synthetic stocked rifle when it is this well built and comes with the reputation of function that a Bansner has. At least she pulled the trigger!!!!! I worked my butt off to put my SO on a bear after she asked me to take her bear hunting. After along stalk (wading a river, 2 miles uphill with tundra and willows, brush, etc) we even stopped 400yds out and had a pep talk, I said we didn't have to shoot it, we could just stay here and watch, etc. She wanted the bear. We got to 40 yards,I had her sit down with bipod legs extended, and waited for the perfect shot. And waited and waited...And waited. The bear eventually realized something was up, but he wasn't sure what. He stood once, would amble a few yards, stop and stare at us, take a few more steps and stop and look again, over the course of about a minute. All the while I'm whispering, then fnaly just saying "shoot, shoot, SHOOT." He finally ambled over a ridge 100 yards away (not before stopping broadside for one last look) and she said, "You know, that bear was WAY too cute to shoot." I like cute bears too, I just don't beat myself to death on muskeg and tundra for 14 hours a day to go say hi to them. That was the last time we hunted together! Great rifle Brett. Enjoy being single and seriously question yourself if you think changing that would be an improvement! DRSS "If we're not supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?" "PS.
