Folks,

This is what a successful moose hunt is supposed to look like. Big boy is 66" with everything.

Guys,

Actually that is a picture of a friend with the results of their late season hunt in Unit 17 this year. The smaller racks are 62" and 58". If you remember I posted a picture of the 65" I helped Jerry Huffaker take last year also in Unit 17.

I don't concentrate on Alaska but I do have an outfitter with about 20 years experience in Unit 17 I can work with. He gets $9500 for a 10 day 1x1 hunt. There are a few cheaper hunts but you can also pay $14000 for no bigger moose than what you might find in Unit 17.

If anybody would like more details contact me anytime.

Moose/brown bear 16 days $17000. After yuor moose you would change areas to the Togiak Refuge that is just loaded with bears.

Moose/caribou 12days $14000. You will get a caribou unless you are really unlucky.

Alright I'll bite what does BS, YAKUTIA mean? I think I got the BS part. Evidently there is something you know about Unit 17 that I don't after I lived there 22 years. Please enlighten me. That exact area where the picture above was taken has produced several bulls in the high 70's that I know about. Bulls like that are not common anywhere.

Mark,

The Yakutia moose in eastern Siberia are the biggest moose in the world.

I am sure that 17 is the GMU.

It wasn't mean to be an insult. I probably could have worded it differently.

Take a look at this.

Glad we got that straightened out. All I was saying in my previous post was that I thought your chances of taking a really big Alaska/Yukon moose were very good in my old stomping grounds around Unit 17 near Dillingham, Alaska. I was not saying that Unit 17 had the biggest moose in the world.

Do you have any info on how the Yakutia moose would score using the B&C system?
Thanks.

It would not score. B&C only records north american animals.

It "would score", it would just not be entered.

I don't know how the B&C for moose works. What I know is that moose in Yakutia and Chukotka have the heaviest antlers of any animal in the world.

Boone and Crocket isn't as good a scoring system as C.I.C. is but my fellow Europeans like mass!

Ask one of the big booking agents that book moose in both places the real differences.
