I have seen some really interesting list of skeletons found in Alaska and was wondering what folks thought of the list.

Saiga antelope
Yak
Elk
Short faced bear
Woods bison

Any word on the woods bison re-introductions?

The Indians got a hundred or so wood bison from Canada and they are working on reintroduction.

I've seen bison along road near Big Delta and watched them down along Copper rolling in river dust (between Kenny Lake & Chitna). One morning I caught two young bulls at pull off along that stretch. They pissed some, looked me over, and when I yelled at them off they went into the woods.

We are having whitetails moving in from Canada, along border and also pumas. I hear the Elk ain't that far off from Dawson. Buddy in Dawson feeds whitetails all winter long in his yard, only 100 miles upriver from me.

F&G has wanted to introduce Elk all over Ak but the greenies fight it, never happened.

My neighbor has an 8 foot mammoth tusk in front of his fireplace. Miners still find them, they sell for 60 bucks/lb I hear.

I'd like to see some pigs up here, to feed the wolves of course.

We've been here 20 years. Went back east to Pa in 97; stayed 2 days and had to get on the road back home; further west I got, the better I felt too. I could never live anywheres but here, need the freedom to be complete.

Some years ago, I found fossilized corals and fossilized hardwoods in a river NE of Anaktuvak, AK. Then, on a rocky hill above the river, I found stone tools in what must have been an ancient campsite.

The Bison in Delta and Copper River Basin are Plains Bison. The Woods Bison are all at the Game Farm in Portage. ADF&G/USFWS have not yet determined their relevancy for re-introduction in Alaska. A breeding program is going at the Portage farm, from what I understand and are hopeful to release them throughout the original range.

As an aside, some stone sheep have been spotted (and photographed) on the Alaskan side of the Canadian border in the last few years. Keeping my fingers crossed on a sustainable migration of those!

I've been told the Woods Bison at Portage are scheduled to be released around the Minto Flats area after they under a long quarantine. Not sure of the exact length of the quarantine but 2 years comes to mind.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Deer were planted on Kodiak in the 1930s, they came from Sitka. Elk were transplanted on Afognak/Raspberry in the 1960s and on Etolin/Zarembo in the 1980s. Mt. goats were transplanted onto Revilla Island (Ketchikan) in the 1980s. Saiga antelope were on Prince of Wales during the last ice age, an antler/skull-plate was found in one of the caves, ditto with brown bears, marmots, fox and ring seals. As to transplants, I'm not sure ADF&G will do it again anytime soon.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Pretty amazing to think of all that traveled that area back then.

Need a time machine for the hunting trips alone.
