ADF&G just released a new sheep judging and hunting guide to help hunters better identify legal rams in the field and to avoid wounding. It's been a long time in the make and is very well done.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Good reference material.

For us out of stater's, get a guide with good glass. Packing an 80mm scope is a chore best left to the professionals.

At the end of this month, I'll be attempting to keep up and wondering what the hell I was thinking paying good money for long days of being sweaty, smelly, tired, sore, and hungry. With only some dude named Jake to complain to.

Wet wipes can only do so much. With all of the merino wool I have, I'll just smell like a wet sheep.

That might not be good in the lonely wilderness....

Now back to the OP's thread. Sorry for the derail.

I did note that in the photos used they have sheep that range from big to really big. Not a lot of question on those guys. Neat to see them and dream.

You don't put it in the contract that clients have to wear Merino Wool?

Merino Wool rocks but after 10 days or so when you come out I found old people won't get on the same elevator with you at a hotel before that three hour shower. Wink

In Missouri that could be considered baiting or dating depending upon who you ask.

Tree'em: It is only baiting if you're under age, or intending to club your new mate...or so I've been told.

Frostbit: Let me get this straight, I am to believe that Jake isn't going to tote in a solar shower in so that I may rinse the hard days travels away before slipping into bunny slippers for a peaceful nights sleep?I am shocked!! Seems like there was something in the contract about that.

You are spot on with the merino wool. Great stuff, but not quite the miracle it is over-advertised to be.

Jake is making me pack my own tent. I assume it is because he snores and wants me to be well rested.

The way it will likely go is by day 4 or 5 Jake will say things like, you glass here, I'll be over the ridge glassing. As he walks away, he will mutter something like "I don't get paid enough for this....need a better client screening method".

I love merino. I think it's better than the hype. But some brands do seem to fall short of others.
Day four or five??? You think it'll take that long?!

I don't want him to get his hopes up that I am a model client. Wouldn't be fair.

Gonna be a great hunt!!
