I've hunted 19C for sheep and Shankster has dang near cleaned out the place, I talked to a few guide friends I know and they are getting pissed. And now he's startin' to hammer the trophy moose. Not to mention he's pissed off a few clients. I'm all for guide concessions, I'll be lucky if my kids gets to see a legal ram in that area when he gets old enough.

I have hunted there last few years and he is far from eliminating the sheep.
We see hundreds in the major areas we hunt. We had one area we flew over that we have not even hunted yet it had over 25 rams there.
Also we take about 10 sheep a year on the average, most are well over 8 years old and we see many 7 year olds every year.
I am not sure why your buddies are pissed. I have seen othe outfitters sneaking in to out of this permitted area. I guess give me there names and I will call them and see what they are mad about.
As for the moose have you even been in this area? Nice to make comments with out any information or facts to back it up. They only take 5 or 6 moose hunters a year so that's far from eliminating moose from the 10's of thousands of acres. I have been in camps north of there where there are 30 or 40 paying moose hunters and a 100 resident hunters all hunting out of one area.
I think you really need to check in with game and fish to get the real count and what their feeling is for the amount of and quality of the game in our designated area.
Just give it a break he has had this area since 1986 so he just has a great area and it has not been over hunted. As for you being a resident and you think there are no sheep in that area go some where else, very simple.
ALSAKA is a big state and plenty of areas you could go hunt sheep and moose in so move on and don't disparage some one you don't even know or have correct facts and figures about.
To all our future clients this is a great area plenty of game and well managed has weather there very conduceive for sheep and moose to thrive. We have plenty of well known hunters that will vouch for our hunting integrity and the game quality and quantity.
Have a great hunting season this fall to one and all.
Larry

Reading your other posts you are a very successful sheep hunter for the past few years in the Brooks Range. Congratulation on the sheep you have taken there.
So I guess it's a moot point to be concerned over the game in our area. Looks like where you hunt has plenty of great trophies. Again great rams that you have harvested.

I use the term our area as that I have worked the camp last year and will be there the complete sheep and moose season.
Dude there are not many sheep hunters that would pass up a 39" full curl ram.
As you have indicated your buddy shot it.
So I guess that would be an opportunity for one of the paying clients if it was still there.
I think you must we aware the hunter is the one that makes the choice of which animal he harvests
The guides duty is to verify if it is legal. The guide or the Shankster don't pull the trigger.
As for tents along the river this outfit uses the spike camps layed out accordingly. Sometimes the weather as you know prevents us from flying into some areas, like last year.
Your right it probably will come to a draw area most hunts all over are going that way
Good luck on your hunts this fall
Larry
Just for information Tom is on the game and fish counsel also he supports all the sheep foundations with many donated hunts each year. Matter of fact each year the camp has one or 2 sheep hunters that have purchased donated hunts. I would dare say ther is no outfitter in Alaska that has donated as many hunts or time in effort for the sheep cause than Tom Shankster. One other point I have met more sheep hunters in Toms camp that have muliple grand slams.
Thanks for reading

Just so I understand... You "should" have let him walk, but didn't. But then you think a guide should have higher standards than you but would have also taken the sheep? I'm confused.

Too much background noise and lousy acoustics to have a meaningful conversation. That said, I do wear hearing augmentation. Big Grin

If you really want to have a meet up and the timing works we could have it at my house. Biebs could even fondle his old .416 Rigby.

I'll be in the Brook's August 8-16th or so.

"local" Moose and Caribou as much as possible in September.

We'll have to play it by ear.

Well thanks for the kind words
This area will always have plenty of sheep just book it and we will produce.
Yes I hope the weather is not to crapy again.
People would not realize how windy it got last year . We had a hunter who set his pack down on the mountain top a major gust came and off went the pack gun and all never to be found after 3 days of looking.
Thanks again
Again thanks to the AR members who have supported this hunting group.

I like the updated website a lot. The various landscape photos are stunning under the Everything Else and Location tabs.
In your post listed above you need to replace the .http: with .com for the link to work.
