I was going to take my thermacell on my brown bear hunt ... but Alaska Airlines does not permit butane on board .. (can't argue with that logic !) Ha! Ha! Anyways, should I try to get some in Anchorage ( I arrive in the evening and fly out in the morning so it might be a problem ...) or do the usual .. douse myself with muskol etc ... ??? Thanks.

Best bet is to call your outfitter/guide and see if they sell the butane where ever you are flying into the bush (if it is a sizeable town, like Kodiak). I wouldn't bother, considering the hassle; load up on DEET.

Are the mosquitos still out in late September? I'll be hunting Togiak Lake area Sept 20th. Hopefully I won't need a head net...

Chuck

Scruffy: Sportsmans Wharehouse and Walmart in Anchorage have the cartridges if you have enough time in ANC. I have been told the butane cartridges for hair curling irons are interchangeable with the ones sold by Thermacell but are much cheaper.

Mail a couple of refill packages to your outfitter in advance and take the Thermocell with you empty.

Prayer, planning, preperation, perseverence, proper procedure, and positive attitude, positively prevents poor performance.

order them at Sportsman's Warehouse and have them sent to your guide. Should be no problem.

USPS would not be happy if you tried to mail any thing they consider dangerous.
