p dog shooterSounds like a great idea now if they would bring out a 416 ruger alaskan.

Paul HIf they'd include their iron sights, it would be about perfect.

grizz007boomer, that shine is pretty classy for the brush-just to much of it. Be pretty darn considerate of Ruger to do it in a matte stainless instead. It would be good in a laminate. Would like to see it with a set of "irons" as a standard item and not as an option.
I have my mind made up on this on. This is a caliber to have. I don't know how it compares to my .375RUM but in 07 I will see.

boom stickthe laminate would be great for adding weight for the step up in recoil. yes i agree...satin finish please

Savage99I would investigate if the stock is a keeper. After dealing with the junk I got from WW with the 2002 M70 SS WSM I am suspicous.
Not sure what Ruger is using for stocks? Thats why I lean towards Kimber these days.
Kimber has a better safety than the Ruger and a better trigger.

The Ruger “Alaskan†model in the NEW .375 Ruger cartridge is a bold departure in weather-resistant brush guns for large and dangerous game. The stylish Ruger “African†version, also chambered for this new Hornady–developed cartridge, will set new standards for African big game rifles.
This makes me think, the Alaskan might be different in some way than what they are currently putting out.

boom stickif it oooogly i might as well rechamber a 300 winmag blr or redo a 7mm synthetic stailess

RMillerI would like to see iron sights, 24 inch barrel , target grey finish on a laminated stock. Same profile barrel as on thier 338's.

Supposedly, from reports I'm seeing here, case head measurement is .532" same as the Win Mag casehead.
The problem for Ruger is that "The Alaskan" already exists (.338WM), which is perhaps the most popular cartridge up here, right there with the .30-06 and the .300WM. Also, the .375H&H is already popular enough with bear hunters.
Why didn't Ruger just used the data and design of the .375 Taylor?

RMillerIt is supposed to be more like the 375/300win . Rather than the 375/338 like the taylor.
By keeping with the .532 casehead it will fit lots of actions and finally shedding the belt.

Well it would be a very good canidate for my LH
Ruger MK2 7MM Mag. 375 H&H does not adapt well to action length of the Ruger. And should not
have the problem of case stretching. Like the
long taper of the the H&H case, but downside
would recoil may be sharper.

boom stickusing less powder you get less recoil in the same weight gun. you could also load down to 2400 fps with premium or non premium bullets
