Last time we lived in Alaska was 2014.

We weren't there long, and I got promoted out of there by DOD and had to California.

My boss told me that we needed to talk about moving back to Alaska in 2018.

Wife said yes, so we are considering it.

Would you live in Eagle River or Wasilla?

It will be the fourth time I have moved to Alaska, so I am not new to the idea. Just wondering how much Anchorage has changed in 3 or 4 years.

Both have pro's and con's. If I were inclined, I would live in Eagle River over Wasilla.

Should know something soon.

Last time we lived in Eagle River.

Houses in Wasilla are cheaper, but 40 miles is 40 miles.

A friend of mine here is going to Greely, he is thinking about living in North Pole, so his wife can work in Fairbanks. To me that is beyond nuts.

A lot of moving pieces in this move. A ton of money to get back, we will see who is paying for it. If it is me, we will probably go to the desert SW as that is where I was originally hired, and they have to pay my way back.

If one has zoning and one does not I would pick the one without zoning.

I have friend that took a job at Greely in December he is in the process of closing on a house about 12 miles from the base.

I like ER , where do you work and play, 40 more miles gets old. Crime is an issue in Wassila, housing prices in ER are higher but remain stability in the downturns. We are still in a recesion here , and Gov. Walker is a joke!

That's kind of a wide paint brush Kurt. Crime is an issue in parts of Wasilla just as it is in parts of Anchorage and parts of Eagle River. Our neighborhood hasn't had any real crime issues in the 15 years we've lived there.

I couldn't agree more on Gov. Walker. The man is an embarrassment to this state.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." I assume you are working at the base. That would make it very easy for me. Eagle River. The thought of wasting needless hours a day every time you drive to work from the valley and the risk of making that drive twice a day in the winter would give me ZERO interest in the valley regardless of any other factors.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I would not live in either place.
But if you are working at the base or Los Anchorage Eagle river would be the only choice.
You do not want to drive the stretch from Wasilla to Eagle river in winter!
That area has more wrecks than you can imagine.
I have seen 15 cars wrecked in a 5 mile stretch more than once.

We lived in ER for 25 years, and moved to Wasilla about 3 years ago. Don't regret it one bit. Bigger lots, and far more bang for your buck home wise. Crime is where you find it. Be smart, and don't buy in a shithole area. More sunny days, and warmer summers. The wind can suck at times, no argument there. As for the drive, it has it's moments, but for the most part, it's not a big deal to me. Most of the stupid shit I see is between ER and Anchorage. We're very happy to be Valley Trash!

Don't forget the Chugiak area. Get a nice place near Birchwood Airport and the shooting range, not as crowded as Eagle River proper.

Uh last I looked ol anchorage which eagle river is part has a thriving murder rate ... i drive to work every days from Wasilla to jber and it doesn’t bother me at all... By the time I get home whatever dumb shit the ol Army did for the day was left behind when I cross knik river bridge.. Most are buying homes out on KGB or Fairview loop. I will take Wasilla over eagle river/anchorage all day long.. I can fire up my sled a zip down the Road try that in eagle river/ anchorage. I was in my back yard fire formibg brass one night. Try that in anchorage/eagle river. Far as crime in the valley it’s stuff people leave unsecured in their yards.

I live in Wasilla, I work on JBER for the Air Force, I would live as far from Anchorage as possible, I do the drive, and its not bad, I prefer the Valley, You'll get more bang for your buck out here for a house, I'm on 9 acres with a 2000' airstrip, If you want acreage and or a house with a detached shop/ or hangar your best bet is the valley I'm just outside city limits off Fairview loop and there are several communities that cater to your out door needs, if you fly, there's several aviation communities near by, if you like boating theres many lakes and places to launch your boat to access major rivers for fishing and hunting. if your into equestrian or horseback trail riding we have many that cater to it too, look up real estate sales in MatSu and you'll see... but then again why am I trying to a car salesman here? the less people we have the better ......

Dang!! So Joyce and I can't move out? Think of it. We could watch the Iggle Redskin games together. Or maybe that's why you don't want us out there. Big Grin

Cheers
