I had a guy yesterday ask me what kind of money they use in Alaska. I still wonder how much my Texas driver's license is worth, or whether I should carry my passport just for the Hell of it. Alaska is its own breed of cat compared to anywhere else in the U.S.

I don't remember the Longval scandal. I sure did like serving with Needham, esp when I was the 23 Eng Co. Did you ever know Doug Carron? He was my 1st Sgt when I was the 23rd Eng CO. Most impressive soldier of any rank I ever met in the Army. My boss while I was 23rd Eng Cdr was George Vakalis; I took him sheep hunting once. Great hunt.

Tony Longval was the post chaplain--he might have been the command chaplain, I don't remember. Anyway, he was an 0-5 getting ready to retire. Tony was a counselor and used hypnosis to help "treat" his patients, who were all military dependent wives with marital problems. He groped them (or worse) and there were probably 10-15 victims who came forward. One of my MP's wife broke the case. Tony also moonlighted in Anchorage at a clinic, so we never did know how many women he abused. He admitted to the crime and I was privileged to watch the big iron door clang shut behind him at Leavenworth. This was interesting case, as I had just come from Ft. Sill where ANOTHER 0-5 chaplain had been convicted of sexual abuse of his charges. However, that guy was a real a-hole--pleaded not guilty, was convicted, & I had to guard him at his quarters while he was using the 2 hours the judge gave him to "get his affairs in order." He gave me so much crap I threatened to cut off his free time, and he settled down. After the Longval case in AK yet another chaplain--this one an 0-3--got caught by yours truly having an affair with the wife of an enlisted man. Since it was consentual, he was allowed to resign for the good of the service. I saw a lot of strange things in Alaska--and most other places--as an MP. But nothing to compare to what I saw after I retired and went into the real estate business. You can't imagine what goes on in people's houses, or for that matter what they tell you about and let you see. Okay, I remember Longval now. The one thing you never wanted to do in uniform is stuff like that (or drugs, etc). I guess that is why service members have such a hard time with Clinton but so many in the general public don't think it was a big deal. But hey, I don't want to turn this into the Political Forum.
