georgeldPolarGrizz??
Anyone familiar with the recent killing of the mixed bred bear in a recent issue of Field & Stream???
Showed one sorry distant picture and little in the story.
Guided hunter thought he'd killed polor bear. Then after getting it back in camp others started looking it over and decided the brown spots on the nose, back, foot, and hump that it just might be a very rare wild bred crossbreed.
DNA samples have been submitted to a lab.
I'd like to see better pictures of the 'features' mentioned.
www.fieldandstream.comThis has been done, or happened in zoo's, but, from the article, has not been documented in the wild.

WhitworthGeorge, there's a thread about this on the Big Game Forum that you might want to check out. Someone post a link to an article as well.

JohnTheGreekI think whacking one of these (or what you think might be one of these) would be a risky proposition. Are you really willing to chance, on the basis of appearance, that what you shoot isn't a pure bear of either sort?
That said, I am 99% certain that if it weren't a "pure" polar bear, it wouldn't be subject to any of the import restrictions set forth by the Marine Mammal Protection Act in the US and importation would be a breeze. I say this because hybrid Plains/Wood Bison are not subject to the Endangered Species Act as are pure Wood Bison.

boom stickriflemanz...
you need to join the "We band of 45-70ers"
Since the bear was taken in Canada. WRONG FORUM
Incidently the lab has confirmed that it is 1/2 Grizz and 1/2 Polar bear

georgeldInteresting reading these posts and the articles about this bear since it was killed.
Way I read the story, they both believed it was a polarbear until getting back to the village. Where others started questioning the brown markings.
