| 69deer, Well done! I lived in Dillingham for 22 years and there are some great moose genetics in Unit 17. Huge congrats on a monster that will go well into B&C. | https://imgbb.comThis is a very nice , very simple straight forward image hosting site. So simple a logger can do it . Use the full bb code to post here or on other forums. Congratulations on a monster moose. What did you shoot it with ?
Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

| Congratulations. That's a nice moose.
"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." | 69 Deer Is Mark just a transporter or does he provide guiding in this area. I hunted bears in that area years ago. I believe there was a 2 mile off the river limit to hunt moose for nonresident. |

| Mark is a transporter now. He was a guide but decided he liked flying more than guiding. He has a Piper Pacer so he can haul a load. He is as nice as he is honest, religious and has a great sense of humor. We fly about 90 air miles to our destination, TicChik park. Beautiful country, different looking from most of Alaska. Hills, no snow on any peaks, mostly low land with probably about 40 to 50 percent water of the land mass. |

| I was about one mile from camp which was on the lake. Luckily there was a finger of the lake only about 800 yards or so from where he dropped. It took two of us 5 hours to get him quartered that night. the next morning took another hour or so to finish but the meat had cooled off nice. The game warden fly over and seen us, so she walked in and checked us out. She was fine with the meat we had taken off the moose. We later learned that three hunters that Mark had dropped off all limited out. One person had shot his moose two miles up a valley. She flew over and seen the carcass, dropped down to the lake and walked in. She pulled 30 pounds of meat off of it. Later she took all the meat, his license, antlers and gave him a wanton waste ticket.Expensive, but I bet he learned! My moose was all luck, Mark had dropped my hunting buddy and I off the day before opener. We hunted a few days the text him to be moved after about the 3rd day. Mark came and moved us to the other side of the lake. He taxied us over and I told him we had glassed this area for two days and hadn't seen anything. He told me if we flew we would lose another day of hunting. My call.Shit, we will stay. Mark taxied Scotty over and we set up camp. Later I walked over the mountain to see the country. I walked to the highest peak to glass from, I had just got to the top and looked down.THAT BIG BLACK THING HAS ANTLERS! I knew he was legal for width but still wanted to see the brows. Sure enough he had four on one side. The first shot was a little shakey, just behind the lungs. He started to run up and out of the swamp. Nest shot was thru the brisket and into the far leg. Then I hit him in the shoulder and he dropped.I was only 225 yards from him. Not real good shooting for something that big! I knew he was big when I walked up to him and I guessed him at about 64 or 65 inches.Funny thing, the night before we were packing up to be moved I was going thru my backpack. There I found a sewing tape measure that had been in my pack since my first moose hunting trip. Now this is something I don;t talk about or brag about. This was my eighth moose hunting trip. Thru the years I could have shot just legal bulls or something happened that I just couldn't pull the trigger. All were self guided. Back to the tape measure,I told Scotty, That tape has jinxed me! Its getting burned and tossed it to Scotty. The next day when Scotty and I were at my moose I said to Scotty. Do you still have that tape? He smiled and said. Nope I burned it. Yahoooo! |
