Stayed on POW and boated over to hunt, no guide, lots of fun. Took him with a .375 H&H Mauser I built a few years ago.

Really great. . Where did you stay on PoW ?
Nice looking bear and rifle . !

Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

Nice! Any more hunt particulars? Where you stayed, what you saw, etc?

What bullet did you use?

I used 300 grain Nosler partitions over 70 grs of RL 15 giving me 2560 fps out of my rifle. Bullets performed as expected with a complete pass through even when taking out the front shoulders. I stayed at Calder Mtn. Lodge with Bill Miller and his family. Excellent accommodations and food. We saw Dall Dolphins, Seals, Otters, Eagles Deer and and Bear. Good times with good friends.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
