I'm thinking about a caribou hunt sometime in the next couple years where my group of 2-4 hunters could be dropped in a fully-equipped camp but without a guide. Thoughts as to the better areas and outfits to contact? Also, what is Alaska terminology for such a hunt?

You are looking to hire a transporter. He cannot guide you, help you pack, etc. I think you would have a lot better luck if you brought your camp with you. You don't need a lot of gear and that way you could use any number of air transporters. One of the great benefits of hiring a guide is they know the game laws (reputable ones anyway). If you do it on your own, read them carefully and follow them to a "T."

We call them "Drop Camps" but in Alaska it's probably called something different. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. They are called drop camps here too but under state guide laws you will have to book with a guide unless you supply or rent all the gear and then take it out with you.
