Anybody else jazzed? Retired now so put in for Bison, Sheep, Goat, Muskox, Caribou, and Moose. Joyce is in for the same minus Goat and Sheep.

I am pretty pumped as well, I am feeling lucky this year!! I'd gladly take a bison or sheep tag.

If you any of you non resident hunters out there want to put in for the draw for those big Chugach Rams, let me know, I can probably help ya out.

I know that this is a silly question but... Does the AkDF&G publish odds for the draw tags?

I ask because I have searched their website and I could not find draw odds.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Yep! Put in for a slew of them. We'll see what happens with baby boy number 2 on the way in February.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I just put in this afternoon. Alaska draw is a little different from what I'm used to. It says you can put in for the same hunt more than once. Does doing so raise your odds for drawing?

Yup. Six tries for one hunt number gives you six numbers in the pot.

Got all mine in this year. It about broke me though. We have two college kids from our church living with us. I bought their licenses and paid for their draws as a Christmas present. With all I spent putting in for my draws along with my wife's draws and theirs, I'll be eating top ramen till next fall. On the bright side, I may have helped the state's economy considerably.

Lol I hear ya mart! Two of my six kids are old enough for the drawing...we only apply for antlerless moose moose tags by the house though. Can’t afford to apply for all the other fun stuff! Course our last four moose have been tasty and within 50 yards of the truck and four miles of the house. Lol

Who would have guessed how expensive it would be to get your kids hunting. My triplet boys turn 12 today. I think I'm going to get them on blackmails on Prince of Wales this next fall. It's much cheaper logistically than Kodiak.

Jake, glad to hear I didn't waste that extra $20 putting in for Unit 2 black bear. I put in 5 times for the fall hunt and one for spring. Last year I only put in once for each. Draw odds are not good for those hunts.

My boys are now old enough to put in for big game here in Utah. We will see how that goes.

Well must have missed it again.
Probably don’t need any more stuff from Alaska
I love the hunting there but the years are catching up. It’s tough hunting and no 5 star hotels on the mountain.
Good luck to you all hope you draw your dream hunts.
Also Meery Christmas to you guys

What could you possibly have on 12 year olds to blackmail them? Big Grin

The threat of telling their Mother !

Good luck to everyone on their draws. I gave up on bison and Muskox this year and concentrated on Kodiak bears.

Hahahahaha Blacktails Big Grin I have stuff on them for sure, but they have even more on me and I would probably get in more trouble from their mother than they would Eeker

Kodiak has a different season than the Peninsula. He could hunt Kodiak and not miss any of the Guide season on the peninsula.
