I haven't written a hunt report for quite awhile. Most were about African trips. I just wanted to give a quick shout out to Cole Hawkins of Hawk Mountain Air in Birchwood. He dropped my nephew and I in for Black Bear using a Maule 6 on tundra tires. This year's berry growth was insane with bears everywhere. My nephew's wish for the hunt was for it to be spot and stalk. He usually hunts PA with a bow but used a rifle for this trip. He also is an ultra marathoner having run 100+ mile trail races in PA so he was not afraid to work for his bear. We glassed five bears the first legal day all over a mile away. My Nephew began a stalk on one that was 1 1/2 miles away, got within 75 yards and shot well. Met Cole 5 years ago when he was flying for the outfitter I hunted the peninsula with. Could really fly that super cub. Good guy. | |||

Nice. Been a few years since I hunted Black Bear. Enjoyed every hunt I've done for them. Your report raises pleasant memories. Glad you guys enjoyed your hunt. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing. | |||

Thanks. It was a beautiful area. You caused me to look back at the pictures and I had to laugh. I didn't notice the Boone and Crocket dragonfly above my nephew's gun barrel.
