Thank you for the replies.

Do wish I'd been able to study the reloading books before getting this Sako 7mmag.

Hell, I already had an '06.
Sure like the gun itself, but, limited to 175's and the specs are comparable to the 06.

After reading all this about the .338 has me wondering if anyone would be willing to swap the iron, my 7 for a .338. I'd do it in short time.

Couldn't/wouldn't swap the wood, as I've had it extended so wouldn't fit most others.

For recoil comparisons between the 300 and 338 Win Mags I had both in BARs and the 300 Winmag wsa far shrper recoil. I got rid of the 300 WinMag and bought two more 338s one a Ruger MkII and the other a Win 70. To me the stock fit on the Win is superior and as a result seems to kick less onjectionably. I jsut got a Ruger 375 H&H and it seems muzzle heavy but haven't shot it yet as it is being oufitted with a jewelec bolt, Timney trigger, and a KickEze recoil pad and lop increaed to 14'.
When I lived in AK the 338 was the go to gun.
