Anyone catch the episode where the two guys shoot a "mountain caribou?" They are hunting in the Brooks Range.

Amazing someone can make a TV show and not even know what species they are hunting.

Ya know, those goofy shows make me think more about nx May & June for grizz & blk bear; I'm moving my bear stand 4 miles further in right at base of mountains just to get some new bear on game camera. We (neghbors & my kids) got 8 bear outta my stand last June. All those shows and some are pretty good, really like "Your own adventure" I think it's called and the that predator guy Eichelman or whatever, good stuff. Those shows motivated me to build a stand on a good lick for moose nx fall, had to cut several miles of trail in to get to it too.

But most of all, I now realize how I got some pretty great caribou hunting right in my back yard; bigger numbers, more double shovels, higher heavier racks, and subsistence tags than I see those guys shooting on tv shows.

I enjoy them just the same when it's minus 50. We still have bou on our summit and we still have tags and I ain't even considering riding skandics up there.

I did see one that really caught me eye over xmas. Eastmans Family history. They were in Mckensie range in 60's making a hunting movie. Sheep had never seen people, 18 of them in a group, a few full curls, 200 yards away or less. They shot 3 times and missed, then the sheep scattered. I laughed so hard that I bought the dvd off their site; and I see sheep all the time right near the house, catch them on the Yukon ice when out riding and the wolves have them scared. Check that eastmans video out.

Once the survivor man had set net and chums were jumping around it, hitting it, but he couldn't catch a one and ended up stealing a fish off an eagle and cooking it up. Finally he pulled net, and the mesh size was like for minnows, unreal, and he's making movies and making money. Couldn't figure out why he couldn't get a salmon in his net though, quite apparent they couldn't get their heads & gills through the 1 inch holes.

I remember seeing that Eastman film about the sheep in the Territories when I was a kid. It was in the movie theatre. I enjoyed it so much that I sat through it twice. Must have eaten enough popcorn that night ! Speaking of Survivor Man .. I don't think that I have ever seen that guy capture enough protein in a week to equal a damn 1/4 pounder hamburger. I have little doubt that if he were stranded for a month he would most likely die of hunger ... (maybe I am just missing the episodes when he kills a porcupine or moose or catches a two pound fish in the bayou ... Confused Smiler)

I was reading in the paper up here that Alaska subsidizes movie making here in Alaska. Anything to shake down possible donors with for some contributions, ha ha. People apply when they are making movie and have to be selected as usual. Last two movies picked were those two brothers that shot the (mnt caribou) ha and that meat eater show. Apparently some applications have been turned down, porno movies and such and non contributors as usual, ha ha.

But ya know, when it's too cold to enjoy the outside, I'll watch those hunting shows some.
