I asked when we can expect to see SA left hand Hawkeyes begin to ship. They wrote me back and said to check back in a month.
Seems like we've heard this before...

check back in a month to see if the demand warrants bringing them out vs. sticking to guns that are selling hot and are on backorders, and getting the AR15 orders filled.

Sorry, fellow lefties, we got screwed by high hopes of Ruger this year

I just saw some LH Hawkeye's in long action calibers listed on gunbroker.com. Most likely not news to anyone but I don't remember having seen any LH hawkeye's at all. So this is a step in the right direction.

There are plenty of long action LH Hawkeyes available. That has been the case for months. I am particularly fond of the stainless guns with laminated gray/black stocks, as on the .375 LH guns. I bought one in 7 Mag for upcoming anetlope and Barbary sheep hunts in NM. I have a Bushnell DOA scope on it with dots from 100 to 650 yards. Should be fun. The ranges are usually long.

I didn't think I would like the laminate stock but it looks pretty good, although I've not inspected one in person.
Did you have trouble getting a tag for Antelope?

Cliff,

This is the second time I've applied in NM. I got an Oryx tag three years ago. Shot an old bull. Then this year when I didn't get a once-in-a-lifetime Oryx tag on White Sands Missile Range, I applied for antelope, elk and barbary sheep in hopes of getting one. I got all three! I'll be going in September, October and February.

Woo hoo!! Way to go on tags. That's great. I expect photos and the story that goes with each hunt, complete with caliber, scope and shot made.
you know the drill...

I just noticed that one of my distributors has Short Action LH 7mm-08s in stock. I just ordered one. This is the only caliber they had in stock in left hand short actions. None of the 9 other distributors I deal with had any in stock. Apparently Ruger started off with the 7mm-08 in the short action line. If anyone wants one, let me know. MSRP is $800. I can sell them for $700 plus shipping.

Allan

The 7mm-08 rifle came in today. Very nice. Lightweight and compact. Typical plain Ruger walnut stock. Nice trigger pull. I'll put it on Gunbroker over the weekend.

P.S. Off topic, but I shot my first antelope in NM on Saturday with my Hawkeye LH 7mm Mag, 387 yards after a 3- plus mile stalk. I shot it near Vaughn, NM on a state-issue tag on a private 8000 acre ranch with some BLM land as an inhold.

My contact at Ruger indicated that they are shipping 204, 223 and 22-250 short action lefty guns, but couldn't tell me where they went. None of my distributors have received any. If you want one when they arrive, I can sell them now for $600 plus shipping.

Thanks. I am in more need for a .223 than the large calibers, at this time.
What would everyone recommend for optics? It'll be a walking small game/varminter.

any pre fit recoil pads available for the Hawkeye? I need to add a little length.
I've checked with Brownells and Midway , did not see any.

Now I've seen all of the short action calibers in stock, since one of my wholesalers just showed some LH .223s. So if you want any of these cailbers, you'd better get them now. Ruger will probably only make each caliber once or twice each year and will not repeat them if the orders are not there. All of these LH guns I've seen are nice, with some pretty spiffy wood for factory guns. I kept a .22-250 for myself with knockout wood.
