| Cautionary Tale- I have heard from a gunsmith friend of shortcomings of the new Ruger. It seems there is no front magazine latch on these rifles. With rearward pressure on the mag, it will drop down in front and can cause feeding failures. This was with a right handed gun. I hope this is just a rumor, but my friend is very experienced and we had a lenghthy discussion on the subject. Hopefully, someone out there who has one can try it out and report back. | I tried to get my magazine to move with rearward pressure with no success. I don't like the way the magazine is loaded. You have to push the cartridges back under the lips instead of pushing them straight down onto the follower as with every other magazine I've ever tried. I'm sure it has something to do with reliable feeding, but I don't like it.

| I sold the first one I got in as a used gun after putting about 25 rounds through it. I really like the bolt and the adjustable length stock. I don't care for the scout scope setup. I don't like a 10 round capacity well enough to put up with that box magazine. I would like the gun better with a conventional magazine and plain barrel. I really do like the Docter Optic reflex sight. I just bought a second sight today and put it on a LH .223 Model 77. I think I'll order a LH standard .308 instead of the scout for my own use. However, I'll buy a few LH scouts to sell. One of my distributors had four in inventory a week ago. Two hours later they were gone.

| UPDATE: I just talked to my contact at Ruger who said that they are coming out with a three-round polymer magazine for the scout which will make the rifle much more suitable for use when hunting. He had a prototype magazine on his desk and it is pretty much flush with the stock. With that magazine the rifle is easy to carry at the balance point. It makes for a nice handy rifle. You can carry the loaded 10 round magazine as your spare ammo supply. I had a backorder with my distributor and I was just informed that a shipment was received today. The guns aren't posted on their inventory yet, so I have a few hours to add to my order if anyone wants one. $750 plus shipping to your dealer. Shipping will be $25 to the lower 48 states, about $65 for AK. Call if you want one: 423 262 9394

| The polymer 3 round and 5 round magazines are now in stock at my wholesalers. I bought a couple extra of each just in case they dry up. The 3 round mag is supposed to be flush with the bottom of the floorplate.

| That thing is just too damn ugly. I'll accept ugly in a semi-auto assault type tool...but for Bolt Rifles...well, you gotta have standards..!! |

| I've grown to like it. It's a killing tool, not a work of art. Would you say of a hammer that it is too ugly? It is short on both ends and efficient. That scope is a Weaver Micro-Trac with a German No 4 reticle. Another good tool. By the way, Ruger is selling the 3 and 5 round polymer magazines on their online store for $40.

Makes sense. I myself have to go with function over form –– in this case, anyway.

| These things have really dried up. Ruger doesn't have any left in inventory. All my distributors are out. I got two of them after a four month wait after ordering five. I have one left that I'm going to put on Gunbroker soon. I did get the 3 and five round magazines and the 3 round mag is flush with the bottom of the stock. I don't like the 10 round mag at all. I understand that you can screw off the muzzle brake and the thread is correct for most suppressors. That might be neat. We can hunt with suppressors in Tennessee.
