WTH were they thinking? Offering the most oddball of their lineup in left hand, while guns that would sell in a snap are not in lefty. Brilliant.

Why not the stainless lineup in left hand?

It's ugly, but I would buy one, in fact I just put it on my Lipseys dealer's wish list. But I don't understand why they would make this one before they make the left hand 6.5X55 I've been trying to get Lipseys to order.

Some they do but only in short runs, such as the .270 I shoot. They were only shown on Davidsons for about six weeks before they were gone - 25 of them IIRC.

Agreed. Another LH option's a good thing in my books, not that I'll necessarily buy one...

I do like it and may get one. To each their own. Glad to see another left handed offering.

Seems like a good "truck" gun. Proper caliber and detachable mag. Not a bad combo.

I have seen some pics of these with scopes mounted in extended rail set ups like the Larue mounts. Then they turn them so the extension is to the rear.

not a bad Idea to avoid the scout scope (which I also don't really care for) and having a QD return to aero set up.

Also ahve heard they do need a bit of free floating and beadding to make them shoot a bit better.

I just can't stand to know ther is an easy fix for better accuracy and then leave a rifle without doing that east mod.

I have no desire to shoot any .308-class rifle with a 16.5" barrel. However, I hope there are plenty of us who have been waiting for this and snap them all up!

I handled a RH version this week and liked it; the only negative for me was the cage up front. The trigger was sweet; I'm partial to an inline magazine; I liked the mini-14 style sights. I'll probably buy one.

Get rid of them and that bird cage flash suppressor also.

If you want to keep the front sight, it should be easy enough to get a similar barrel contour and fit the sight to it.

Or just shoot it as a .308 as is. I've got LOTS of 308 ammo around here!

Still tempting to modify one of these a bit......

Kudos to Ruger for another LH offering but I was suprised to see it offered so long since the colonel first developed the concept. The availability of high quality AR 10 clones in multiple configurations will severely hinder sales, at least in the US, though.

I have one coming in. My contact at Ruger said they jumped the gun a little by making LH scouts so soon. They had a small production window and had all the parts so they made a few. I don't know how many were made. Mine came from Jerry's. It's the only one they have received, I was told. I had to pay extra for it as it was ordered first by another dealer who thought he was getting a RH gun. I had to pay his cost including shipping, then the cost to ship it to me.

I would never have thought of this kind of gun as ugly or pretty. It's a tool and for a lot of killing tasks, it is just about right. It is short, handy and reasonably light, has a powerful enough cartridge, good sights (with options)and is durable and reliable. Those are all good traits in a weapon. That can be mighty pretty at certain times.

I've got the right handed version with the Leupold Scout scope. Very handy little rifle, keeps the 8" steel plate ringing at 200 yards from sitting or prone with little work on my part.

I think once you'll shoot it you'll like it. But it won't win any beauty contests.

My FFL can't find one at any of his distributors. Not sure what's up with this but Hopefully, they will make a full run of them.

Call Renaissance Firearms in Rochester, NH. They had a NIB one about two weeks ago when I dropped by. Nice rig, but not for me.

If you get one of these guns, sell the rear sight to me. Ruger won't let any of them out yet. It would be just the ticket for my ATV Gun. They fit right on the rear scope base.

Actually, they're held on by a single small bolt. You'd have to D/T the rear bridge of your ATV gun. But they do work pretty well as a rear sight. Smiler

I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Cooper in the 1980s when he was brought by some gun fans to testify on a proposal by the Winnetka, IL police chief to buy Uzis for his officers. This was in the wake of the Laurie Dann tragedy, and was a proposal that we all including Jeff agreed was nutty.

Jeff's response at that time was that the perfect weapon above a pistol for typical police officers in such a situation (standoff) was the Winchester 94 lever action in 30-30. Simple, short, foolproof. Uzis would be a nightmare (I've shot them.) Indeed, the only discharge of a firearm by the police in that incident was an AD -- an officer with a shotgun shot a hole through his car roof. Laurie Dann ended up shooting herself, which I understand is typical and why police normally sit back and wait.

Jeff was kind enough to sign some of his books for me. As I recall, his scout rifle concept came not long after this.

Ironically, we met in the gun shop that had sold Laurie her pistols, and in the presence of the clerk who sold them. Jim told me that there was no way that she looked strange and she did have an IL FOID. However, she was in fact a real piece of work and one of the houses where she left poisoned fruit juice on the front step was my neighbor directly across the street in Glencoe.

I am not a big fan of Rugers, having had several, but I do not see anyone else making a LH scout rifle, so count me as a plus on the idea.

The street price on gunbroker seems to be about $750 to $800. I'm going to try to get a few to set back in case they are a short run. I put a docter optic red dot on the front scope mount on mine and there is still room for the scout scope on the scout rail. You can look through the reflex sight and see the crosshairs on the scope. Also. the rear sight appears to be made by XS sights, as the aperture will interchange with the XS aperture. I installed the XS aperture as it is considerably larger than the ruger aperture. With a conventional 2.5X scope mine groups about 2" at 100 yards using a large post reticle.
