Having traveled to Israel many times, I always hoped that hunting would open up. There are huge Ibex in the south, along with Dorcas gazelles, and caracal. I the north there are wild boar, and some sort of deer. There is also a very small population of indiginious leopards found around the dead sea and the negev dessert. I am unsure of the status of the leopards there, since I cannot find any recent research information.

-A quick google search Hunting is still permitted in Israel, although the Wildlife Protection Law of 1955 restricts the hunting season and hunting areas, as well as prohibiting certain methods of hunting (traps, explosives, poisoning). Hare, wild boar, partridge and some duck species may be hunted, but in limited numbers and only with a permit.

I WOULD BE THERE IN A SECOND given the opportunity. If anyone knows someone who knows someone, please let me know! I'd be content with waterfowl or upland game but hunting a properly managed gazelle population would be acceptable too! Best, John

John, I think that the bedoins hunt for the gazelles, but as far as I know, no Israelis hunt anything. I guess if you knew a landowner you could work something out, but there is no way to import a rifle.Fire one shot, and you will gunship looking you! I think that most people would let you hunt, as I think that they are open minded to hunting. It is a beautiful place.

I think they have a very liberal season on Palestinians.

My wife has some cousins in Lebanon. They talked about some duck hunting there. Not sure if non residents could do it.

Dog, you must have been to Ein Gedi...there are HUGE Ibex there that die of old age. There is also a very small population of Leopards there, but I have been trying to find out there status to no avail. Crow, You are right about the Palestinians, but I do think that any arab will do once in the crosshairs!! The arabs do a pretty good job on the jews too.

i know about a wild boar that was shot in a bananaplantation down there, it weighed 300kg and had been stalking the bananas for month. tjhe owner sat in a machan with a shotgun loadded with slugs, and waited ,and waited,. when he was on the brink to give up, the boar came out and got a couple of slugs. i didn`t know there was ibex down there. If you know someone who has a farm or you work on a kibbutz, its is possible to hunt there. i am going to try that in a couple of years.

It was the first ibex I ever saw and it was amazing. WE were at En Gedi and Masada and they ran across the highway in front of us. It looks like very difficult country to hunt, would love to try.

Dogcat, It is an amazing place! Too bad there is no hunting, BUT....last year one of my father-in-laws friends who owns a chicken farm, told me that I could hunt boar, jackel, and caracal on his property...unofficially of course, but I could not get my hands on a weapon. Rifles are non- existant there, except for soldiers weapons, and if a gunshot was heard, there would be a patrol out looking for you in no time. Too bad though, since I saw alot of tracks at a waterhole.

I suppose that the IDF could arange a hunting trip for you, Hezbo season has been open for 10 or so days now. I guess the season will close once the quota is reached. Joking aside, I didn't think there was anything there game wise, being so small and the population numbers of people. Learn something new every day

Civilized sport hunting in a country full of Jews? I don't think so. Their idea of sportsmanship is to bomb neighboring women and children.

Boat, You should post your thoughts on the political forum with the rest of the idiots there. I think you would fit right in.

Wolfgar, could you get a bow and some broadheads in with you? That might allow you to set up a hide and stake out the tracks running into the waterhole? I've never drawn a bow against live quarry before but I think it should be feasible... FB

Buck, I did bring a bow, arrows, and broadheads into Israel about 10 years ago with no problem...I wonder if that's changed with all the crap going on now. If you can do that and get a farmer to let you sit at a waterhole, I'm sure you would get some action. Call it un-official hunting. If you kill say a caracal, skin and salt it, and bring it home. If customs stops you, I would just say that I bought it from a bedoin at a cashbah.
