Finally, after a month of hunting, I have taken my fallow deer. When free range they are really wild and difficult to see.

The Story.(soory for my bad english)
The area is in Central Italy, in the Appenini Mountains in the province of Modena. The hunting territory is about 800 hectares and is about 800 m slm. Is plenty of Fallow Deer, Roe Deer and Wild boar. I hunt there in July- August for the Roe deer buck and wild boar. From Jan first to March 10 th is the season for the Roe deer does and young and Fallow male and female. This year in my quota I had one Fallow female and I looked for her for about 5 week end. I killed 3 Roe deer but for many reason I wasent able too see one fallow... Last week some inusual snow for the period is arrived. So I tried to walk around in the bush for looking some fallow in the areas where they rest. I saw two herds of about 15 animals, but they were in the thick forets so was almost impossibile find the space for a clean shot. I tried but I missed. I dont know if was my mistake or the bullet found some sticks. Sunday, the last day of the hunting season, I have decided to try again. The snow had been melted almost completely so was difficult walking without make noice. Early in the afternoon I went in a place where I have ever seen animals, is a glade in the scrub, where the trees have been newly cut and I have sat to wait. Normally the animals they comes out from the forest very late so I was ready to wait for a long time. I waited for only half hour and I heard some rumors in the forest" tac, tac, tac,". I looked with my binoculars and I saw under the trees a couple of fallow buck wich was fighting at about 120 meters of me. One big buck and one medium size. Was a difficult shot in the middle of the forest but was possible. Was my last opportunity. The problem was that I did not have the tag for the buck, only for the female. But was the last day of the season so maybe there were some tags for the buck still available. I have sent a sms with mu cellular telephone to the game warden and he answered: "Ok for the buck, but not the big one". So I fired to the smaller. At the first shot the buck turned around badly wounded but he has not fallen. So I fired again and finally he went down. Was a good buck of 75 kg with a good trophy for the age. Quite a lucky day.

Weidmannsheil Mario! First time I hear of anybody actually hunting the Appenines. I was under the (incorrect, apparently) impression that area was almost like a reserve or national park.

Thanks Mike. The Appennini are a long chain of mountains, they go, across our italian peninsula, from southern Lombardia to the South. Of course ther'are some national parks, like the famous Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, but in most part of the mountains hunting is possible. Actually ther'is probably the biggest population of ungulates of the country. Ther' is absolutely the best population of roe deer, with a very high trophy quality. Also good Mouflon and Fallow and a growing population of red stag. Dont forget the wild boar: plenty everywere.
It's incredible to think that situation is born in very few years, maybe ten. But now all the area is probably the future of big game hunting in our country.
